Is anyone going to see Star Wars Rogue One? -

Sorry if this should be in the EU thread, I'm not sure where to post stuff about new Star Wars movies. I think the visuals of the new film look awesome with the Death Star and Donnie Yen fighting.

The heroine looks a bit too edgy though. The "I rebel" dialogue in the trailer sounds a bit young for a 30 year old, like they can't decide if she's meant to be a teen or not.

Yeah, the "I rebel" line was terribly cringeworthy and reeks of Disney trying to get the Hunger Games audience to watch Star Wars.

I'll still see it because the last 1/3 of Gareth Edwards movies tend to deliver pretty well on the visuals, but I expect that this movie will have a lot of hardcore fans bitching about the studio making it too family-friendly. Those rumors that the reshoots were done because the ending was too dark (which is what most fans were hoping for - every comment section on the trailers seems to have some flavor of "I hope Darth Vader just shows up and slaughters all of them at the end") will guarantee that if it doesn't deliver the studio will be blamed.

darn, I got bored of Godzilla halfway through and turned over. Not sure I want that much of a depressing ending but I don't want it messed around from the creator's vision. At least Lucas called the shots on his own story and didn't take orders to tone it down from anyone.

My dad is the biggest Star Wars autist so yes. He's literally seen every movie since IV on opening day.

I'll go see it just because it's Star Wars.

I mean, the concept for the movie alone is very interesting. I'm surprised no one has tried to make a movie about it before. And from what I remember, the director also did some episodes of Breaking Bad, so I'm a bit cautiously optimistic.

But hey, if it blows, it will at least lead to some interesting conversation and discussion.

I mainly want to see Donnie Yen. I love the thought of Donnie Yen chopping up Stormtroopers.

The best I can say about it is that it'll likely be better than a majority of movies this year, but that's not saying much at all.

And that it will be leagues better than the Prequels.

I think the main idea of the plot behind it is pretty interesting--kind of like a heist movie. Maybe it'll suck. But I still have more confidence in it than anything in DC's film lineup in the near future.

It looks like absolute ass so no. I don't need to see the death star blow up for the fifth time.

They're not blowing it up, they're just stealing the design plans. That DS gets blown up in A New Hope. /sperging :geek:

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully, the reshoots will yield more pros than cons in the final cut of the film.

Yeah I'll go see it. Like others have said, it's an interesting concept for a Star Wars film and I hope that in future spin-offs they explore other unseen side stories from the Original Trilogy.

If nothing else it looks like it'll be a fun action movie. I'm not expecting anything especially deep or insightful, but I'm sure it'll be a good time. Also, getting to hear James Earl Jones as Darth Vader on the big screen again when he isn't having to read George Lucas's undiluted Prequel dialogue is worth the admission price alone.

I thought it would be cool if the actor from the prequels played Vader when unmasked. I wasn't crazy on him, but I would be interested to see how he plays an older Vader, and see if he can win the haters over with a better performance under a different director. It would have a "meta" element of the regret over the prequel hate mixed with Vader's regret in the story.

Hayden Christensen isn't a bad actor, he just had the misfortune to be saddled with a terrible script and a terrible director. Under better circumstances I think he would've made a damn good Anakin. There've been no announcements so far as to who'll be physically portraying Darth Vader, but I know for sure it won't be David Prowse (the actor who played him in the Original Trilogy). He's too old, has arthritis, but discounting both of those things he's been blacklisted by Lucasfilm for perceived slights against them so we won't be seeing him in a Star Wars film again sadly.
