Is doxed and doxing spelled with two x's? -

So, I've been thinking, I know it's become a meme to correct people spelling doxed and doxing with two xs, but my question is, what proof is there that this is the correct spelling?

It seems more natural for there to be two xs; but I'm not sure what grammatical rule this is based on. Personally, I've always spelled it with two xs; and I found it weird that people seem to think that it's more correct to only use one.

Singular is one x, plural is two x's. Unless you're using Sumerian script, then it's with three x's. But for the love of God, NEVER spell it with four x's, we fought a war with England over that. This is basic knowledge, dude.
