The most popular media outlets are conservative in nature (Fox, talk radio, National Review, etc).

Conservatives cannot "fight the system" because they are the system. They are not outside of mainstream culture, in most of the country they are mainstream culture. This is outdated. At one point I would have agreed with you, for the most part I still do. Powerful Conservatives no longer have any reason to be "the system" or involve themselves in politics. American politics is about placating a population of people who do not care about each other at all. If you think the police are the same as they were 20 years ago, you're misguided. Speak to someone working at your local jail. Odds are they don't agree with anything going on at the highest level. Do the same with any of the millions of office workers and the result will be similar. The truth is: most Americans are disenfranchised due to an inability to impact outcomes at work, in politics, and in culture.
Intentionally or not, you're playing into a blame game designed to distract the middle and lower class. The rules are simple. 1.) Find something associated with your opposing ideology. As an example, I'll choose Human Resources. 2.) Identify the stereotypes about the job and the politics that are most easily sensationalized. For my example I will associate HR with feminism, ugly women, and pointless make-work. 3.) Take all the stereotypes about the politics and job, soak them in rhetoric for 3 hours and paper mache them onto a single person. 4.) Now that you have your ideological fetish (or pinata) ready to take a beating, remind all your fellows on the right side of politics that THESE PEOPLE are enjoying life while you aren't and that's because they control all of politics.
Politics is not even in control anymore, please update your worldview. The concentration of wealth over the last half century has not led to meaningful politics, anyone suggesting that politics are more important than ever in a post-Amazon world is concerningly wrong. Most people are only just getting around to realizing how much power the government had in the past when it wasn't fucking up all the time. It was expensive, slow, and opaque - all true! But the government still made some good products and still led the world in some ways. Now, you have an auction house pretending to be a government. Instead of expensive, slow and opaque with results, you have corruption without them. Whether it is your data, your property, or your gender identity the government is willing to auction off rights to whatever it can for as much money as it can get. The "left" or woke left whatever you want to call it... Those people read these smoke signals as the fulfilment of prophesy. "It's finally our time to get what we deserve guys!" Unfortunately for everyone, that is not the case. The government can only appeal to those people at this point. It can only create terrorists and zealots to fight for imaginary causes because that is the only area in which they still have relevance and expertise. If it (the govmt.) was able to provide a decent life for all Americans in a way that guaranteed loyalty and commitment, it would. Not because they love you, but because power and security in that power is the only metric they really care about.
If you don't believe me then that's fine, I'm well aware that there is an upper limit to how much the written word can achieve. I think the best evidence I can present to support my argument is that 'we' no longer really talk about the government directly anymore. People talk far more about what will come after, what the new government should be, and of course, whether we need government at all. The current situation is a forlorn hope to all but the most miserable people, as they are the ones most in need of an easy escape.

But why then, does academia proceed as if it were not the case, as if people's biological instincts are the products of their societies? Racism has been mainstream and normal since the dawn of time. It's part of logical pattern recognition and there's nothing wrong with it.

I would say it's a bit related though. You want to protect that tribe and social cohesion from elements that are disconnected from it. All those "waves" of migrants coming in that seem lost and out of place and in general disruptive to that cohesion become a problem, just like the post-modernist that seeks to deconstruct everything.
