Sonichu was not the primary reason for Chris making a couple grand. That reason was Chris and people wanting to see how he would completely twist their requests.Considering what Chris has made on commissions and the fact that Sonichu is known worldwide, would you consider Sonichu and Chris as an artist a success?
Discuss.
As it stands its more of a success than it ever should have been (like you said, world famous among a niche audience online).I'd say Sonichu is a success, but not in the way Chris intended it to be. No wealth, no girlfriend, no Crystal, no games, but lots of entertainment for certain people on the internet for sure.

I think it could have been a success. Have you seen Axe Cop? Sure he'd have to Change some things and maybe get someone to redraw it...but I can see it actually selling in this age of "fail blog", rampant pop culture references on TV shows, and hipsters (America's last desperate subculture) drenching themselves in irony.
Chris has earned about... $5,000.00 after 7 years of exposing himself to ridicule. All the while, he has avoided steadier work, and has failed to improve as an artist. Now, of course, this is a little subjective. Vincent Van Gogh earned no money as an artist in his lifetime, but most people would call him an accomplished artist. The better question is would Chris consider Sonichu a success?
Sonichu is not a success, because Chris has fallen short of his goals.
Sonichu was supposed to be his ticket to a better life.
- Chris has not become wealthy.
- Chris has not acquired a sweetheart.
- Chris has not fathered Crystal.
If Chris had more modest goals, he'd be a happier man today, and maybe even would be able to call himself successful.
I honestly get more enjoyment from Sonichu than any Van Gogh painting. Then again I admittedly do not appreciate fine art.Just realized that Chris made more money than Vincent Van Gogh... i think Vince is crying in his grave right now.
Damn, this world is fucked up, i tell ya.
