I've been thinking about this for a while... The majority of people in general, outside of forums and lolcows.
Every day I see hundreds of cases of common pedophilia splattered across the news. Everyone I look up to is slowly being torn down by pedophilia accusations. Pedophilia is slowly becoming normalized. "Non-offending" pedophiles have been sheltered on SEVERAL platforms.

I have witnessed many people IRL and online justify giant age gaps within relationships (ex. 14 y/o with a 20 y/o) The people justifying it tend to be underaged themselves. Is society attempting to groom the gullible and weak? I see a trope very common with media today as well, where a "cutesy manic pixie girl" has a "dominant daddy" and it attracts crowds upon crowds. A part of the problem may be from media where age gaps are romanticized.... ex: Tumblr "Teacher Crush Community" where girls go to giggle about their overaged science teachers and basically stalk and harass them. To contribute to the publicity of this problem, in public the other day I witnessed a couple (Age est. 16-19) with a girl dressed as a toddler and a collar/leash around her neck. Her boyfriend was wearing a suit. I wish I was joking.
Or am I just re-taw-ded and paranoid?

I doubt it, it's just more reported on now, in the days before the internet these things seem to have been covered up with cases just coming to light now of people in positions of power preying on children.

If anything it was more accepted before with the likes of David Bowie allegedly sleeping with underage groupies and Elvis meeting his to be wife at a party when he was 24 and she was 14, that kind of thing would not be accepted today.

But I think you shouldn't conflate fetishes with actual pedophila, it might be really weird and unsettling but if it's between consenting adults then it's up to them, same with age differences in relationships if both are over the age of consent.

Yes a certain percentage of people have always been sick fucks, but like others have said, they were forced to keep their gross shit to themselves. These days though, being a degenerate monster is almost applauded.

It's increasing because the population keeps increasing, so it's kind of a statistical thing, but also I think that the "everybody gets an award" generation was brought up to believe that almost nothing is wrong, bad or dumb. Where they may have in previous generations never even been exposed to sick shit to get a taste for it, now they're more 'open minded' and seeking horrible shit out. The internet hasn't really helped either.

Realistically, it's probably more or less the same as it was in previous generations, the internet just gave people an anonymous soapbox to be more open about it. That naturally makes it feel like there's a growing trend, but I also think the false accusation angle comes into it. As others have mentioned, calling someone a pedo is an easy way to make someone look like a monster without having to present any actual evidence. Keeping that in mind, I think the fact that it is still an effective means of shaming someone means it isn't nearly as accepted as some circles of the internet like to imply.

But rates of actual child sex abuse are objectively, consistently dropping, same as they have all through history, same as all related crimes like child kidnapping and child murder, same as the general trend for all serious/violent crime, sex crimes, etc all through history.
