He burnt down the tinderbox making coffee. Now he's in a rental that can be paid for out of his freeloader money. I don't see any reason to think this won't be ground zero for tardation for the rest of his natural.

This rental house is probably under some form of contract with the insurance firm. Once 14 BC is fixed (which is happening, albeit slowly) then Chris and Barb will go back to their lives of hoarding, vidya and the odd JULAY call.

From the strength of the fire, starting downstairs and blowing out through the roof, I'd have thought the entire structure would have been past the point of repair. They're going to have to rebuild it from da ground up.

Maybe the outside structure and foundations weren't that badly affected.

I think 14BC will get fixed and the Chandlers will move back, and slowly the hoard will begin to grow again. Chris' consumerism and wastefulness should facilitate an even grander hoard than Barb's. Maybe when Barb dies Chris will hoard her corpse for a number of years.

Does anyone know where his current base of operations is? Ruckersville? Charlottesville? Someplace else?

The insurance company won't put them up in the rental forever. At some point they will finish Branchland Court. I suppose it is possible that at that point, if they decide the prefer the rental home, they could try to sell 14BC and stay in the rental home.

This would be a bad idea for them, I think. It would require them to spread the proceeds from the sale of the house out over time to supplement their Social Security income a little bit each month. While Chris seems reasonably capable of living on a tugboat, I am not confident in his ability to budget a large sum of money over the span of years/decades.

Barb isn't really capable of building a new hoard. And Chris isn't likely to build a hoard when he's on his own. He more hoards digitally, if anything.

Anybody remember that episode of King of the Hill where the collections agency came because Luanne had abandoned her trailer because "it tipped over?" And then Hank has to carefully explain to her that even though her trailer tipped over, she's still responsible for it? I imagine the same type of thing happening with 14 BC.

I'd personally like some insight into how Chris feels about living in a home that isn't a rubbish filled, claustrophobic, bug infested, cat shit smeared, dog piss drenched, deathtrap. But anyway, I think this all hinges on what exactly is happening with 14 Branchland Court, their insurance money won't last forever so something's got to happen at some point.

When it comes to hoarding, I don't see it happening again. Chris is just as careless with money as Barb is/was but his interests as much narrower, and he's pretty much only going to buy toys and vidya related shit, and this stuff is comparably much more expensive by volume than the random crap barb would stuff into her shopping cart on a weekly basis.

Unfortunately, I think Chris is plenty prone to hoarding on his own. Once Barb passes and he has a little more room to himself I have little doubt that it will fill with ponies and Lego, and he'll use the tugboat or more credit cards to do it. His bedroom at 14 BC was a testament to this, and the fact that he hasn't thrown out his old Lego high school despite it having smoke and fire damage is worrisome.

If there is a Godbear, then Charb are paying for the rental off of the insurance money, rather than the insurance paying for it. There is an enormous difference between those two concepts that I feel would be 100% lost on Chris.

I do feel bad for the Chandlers about this. The money can only last for so long and I have a nasty suspicion that the insurance is paying the rental property. Once the money runs out and the bubble pops . . . we'll, it's not going to be pretty. Even worse, I don't think that Chris has any idea of the freight train bearing down on his situation.

Oh, I agree, but where Chris will spend $60 on a single computer game that takes up as much space as a dvd case, Barb would buy 60 different $1 "bargains" that would take up much more space. Or to put it another way, everything Chris had accumulated up until he was 30, fitted into a single bedroom, where as with barb, in the space of a decade, she managed to fill an entire house with meaningless garbage.

I imagine Chris will take up tons of space by refusing to break down his Lego creations though, but I just can't see him stacking multipacks of dishcloths, bumper bags of plastic utensils, and out of date calendars in the stairways and halls.

True, Chris probably assigns far less sentimental value to rubbish than Barb does. At the same token, he's 32 years old and presumably has many more years to amass a collection and the LEGO spending has ramped up considerably since Bob's death.
