Is Zeppelin the greatest rock band of all time? -

Yeah, it's right there in the title. Of all the really great legendary rock bands, I believe Led Zeppelin is the best of them all. I started thinking this when it occurred to me that it you actually have to dig to find a bad Zeppelin song. The music work is probably the best I've ever heard, and along with Plant's voie, it just works. "When the Levee Breaks" was probably what really brought it home.

But the title is a question. Is Zeppelin the best rock band of all time? Or not? Then who is?

Feel free to send me death threats if it makes you feel better.

Zeppelin, in terms of pure hard rock, was difficult to beat. Say what you will about stealing licks from other musicians...none of those other musicians put the pieces together like Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones.

Not to mention their tours of hotel room destruction and sex, drugs and rock and roll was and still is a mix of insane reality and plausible myth.

I'm biased, I quite like a lot of their output and learning to play their songs was a key part of my teenage years. However I think you could make a case for The Who, Van Halen, and Deep Purple as being the greatest hard rock band.
Led Zeppelin ain't w.e.e.n bruh
Even just staying in the "late 60's - 70's hard rock" genre I'd put Black Sabbath over Zeppelin.
Zeppelin had a lot more range than Sabbath, but Sabbath has always been the best at being heavy.

No. They're a good band for sure but they're not even in my top 20 favorite bands.

Black Sabbath had some range, though only war pigs, paranoid and iron Man seem to get any mainstream play.

Hippy dippy
Acoustic
Ballads
Some prog influence

And they single handedly pioneered multiple metal subgenres:
Stoner:
Doom:
Thrash:

Iommi was a riff machine, one Sabbath song might have 2 or 3 riffs that lesser bands would have built a while song around. Don't get me wrong, I like Zeppelin, but black Sabbath was another level.

This is a stupid thing to say.

There are so many diverse Rock and Metal genres and styles out there that you really can't say which one is best.

"Influential" would be a much better thing to debate.

Top 5 on certain days but a bit too one dimensional for me to say #1. I'd also rank the stones, beatles, grateful dead, Allman bros, and pink floyd on that top most tier of rock bands. Really any ordered rank would be entirely dependent on my mood that day.

ETA: I would include phish but they're to niche and dont appeal to normies st all.
