God I hope Hathaway's Flash has some budget. NT was surprisingly ugly to see in theaters outside of the mecha fights, with Martha's design being completely different and most of the character art looking more like a weekly TV show than a movie, especially compared to the OVA and Re:0096 show.

Even the robots weren't too hot in parts of that.

it's not double-posting, it's a memory clone's counterattack from beyond the time

so over on some other onlines somebody posted this from Out, a gag magazine of sorts from Japan from back in the day not too far apart from Mad as far as I gather

basically Char does the isekai thing and ends up in the world of Moomin
these guys

then apparently things escalate quickly

Is he eating out that moomin? Suppose it's better than him chasing underage tail still.

Only a surprise Char hadn't been metoo'd by Mineva.

How is that Gundam Orphans show? It looked interesting, but I've never watched Gundam before.

Has some cool mecha designs and a very interesting setting, although it doesn't really feel like a Gundam show. It has plenty of entertaining moments, but the pacing is weird at times, like when they spend the majority of 2-3 episodes in season 2 showing a few minor characters fighting down on Earth for the sake of another minor character's plot development. It's something any other show would sum up in a single scene and some lines of dialogue here and there, except maybe something like Legend of Galactic Heroes (which gets away with it because that's how LOGH is structured).

There's a ton of characters and the show makes a lot of attempts at developing them and fleshing them out. It got criticized because it spends too much time on this and not enough time on Gundams smashing the shit out of stuff but I didn't find it to be too much of a problem except when the subplots eat the show (like the aforementioned shit).

It's a very dark show even by Gundam's standards, and at times feels dark just for the hell of it. The worst offender is the ending, it's just pure "subverted your expectations" shit (although the last fight was badass) and left me with the same utter confusion I felt after seeing The Last Jedi (although it isn't as poorly done as TLJ and is entertaining to watch if stupid). The plot doesn't build up to it at all and the ending laughs in the viewer's face. It's like it was written for a different show. It's too bad too since I like the ending in concept, it's just the show makes no effort of making the ending work.

I had fun watching it as it aired though for all its flaws. It's a pity the whole thing goes nowhere.

Sorry for the mini-review, I don't know if anything I said here is helpful but seriously fuck the IBO ending.

Having rewatched CCA the other week, I thought Nanai seemed a bit too "motherly" for Char compared to someone like Haman or Lalah Sune. But I never thought Char a romantic type anyway, he seems like the sort of guy who ties together sex with manipulation. Like in Zeta with his relationship with Reccoa. He's the sort who wants his woman to serve his personal interests and casts them aside whenever they're useless. So he's not actually a lolicon like Gyunei speculates in the movie, he'll just fuck a loli like Lalah Sune if it serves his purpose. But speaking of Reccoa, manipulation via sex/romance isn't really Char's specialty compared to someone like Scirocco. For Scirocco, it's pretty much his main tool, but for Char it's one of many tools.

Is it actually true Nanai is Uso from Victory Gundam's great-grandmother or is that just shit that got repeated over and over on /m/?

as far as I understand the legends, Uso and Nanai share the same family name, but their relation was something nixed in preproduction
but yeah Gyunei is a kissless virgin and only speds would listen to him about anything

I watched most Gundam there is thus far, with the exception of a few of the newer ones, and here's my take.

Early to Mid UC stuff (0079-0105) Not too bad. People do a lot of dumbass stuff, but that's true to IRL wars, but some of the earlier produced stuff is notably dated. Designs are the best part for Zeon especially. Like some Feddie designs, but they always were a weird mix of toyetic (partially imposed by the people above, explained in universe as those models being made for exhibition purposes, the production ones are more sensible) and functional (Zeon was more creative in the looks department, Feddie suits were always more boring yet practical)

Like how as things wear onwards, the "quit spilling blood you assholes, you're just doing it out of spite instead of any real point" message becomes more and more apparent, with Unicorn delivering it the loudest.

Late UC (0120-0150): Still good in the design department, but the villains are all carbon copies of the "aristocratic fascist" archetype. Got so grimdark it was basically parody.

Wing: Kinda hard to follow if you aren't a politics sperg. Character writing was good for some, uneven for others. Nice designs.

G Gundam: Hilarious. Never was completely up it's own ass, yet still felt like a Gundam series despite the change in tone.

X: Nice what-if alternate UC universe. Design was basically Wing design meets UC design, which made for some interesting mecha and character art.

A: An acquired taste, but love how it went against the grain in the design department, though the plot was kinda meh.

SEED: First one was a mostly watchable mix of UC/Zeta, but with both the Federation and Zeon stand-ins being insane. Destiny was a trainwreck with some good ideas ruined by terrible decisions. Astray and most of the side stories were actually good. Designs were kinda lame on both sides, with maybe a few good ones in a sea of rehashes and mashups of things done better in other shows.

00: First season is amazing. Understand why second season is considered less so, but I enjoyed both. Movie introducing aliens into a Gundam franchise was done fairly well given the concept. Designs were quite good.

AGE: Haven't seen much of this, but what I have seen didn't impress me too much. Like grimdark Nadesico movie meets weirdly colorful art design and a plot where every side is a bit up their own ass at best.

IBO: Another series that did not impress from what little I saw. Nice premise, but the plot seemed to have little clear direction and Full Metal Panic did the messed up war orphan thing better.

I have Gundam 0079 in English dub. Is the dub good or should I hunt down subs instead?
TV dub is mostly okay, Movie dub is lol fun
neither cast is kept through all of the later dubs with the same characters, go sub for the main stuff with Amuro and the gang
