I wish I could provide more verification.
He went to USC, and I didn't really know him too well at the start of his transition. I saw him around campus. How could you miss someone completely non-passing wearing a dress, but its uni people do that stuff. The games program was held in a pretty secluded area of campus. The cinema school (where the games program was located) was pretty small in size, so even if you didn't explicitly go out to meet people, you'd still see the same people around a lot.
Heather was two (?) years above me, so I didn't really get the chance to be in any classes with him or see his games'. He was, at one point, majoring in Computer Science, but I guess he realized he wanted a useless degree instead so he went ahead and transferred into the game design program after his first year. The only stories I really have involve him being really loud and obnoxious in the common areas of the cinema school, but, I mean, the school was filled with those types. He was pretty well known in the program, being an openly obnoxious trans person, so most of my interactions with him were framed that way.
Most of his games prior to Meatpunks were very non-story based and bordering on absurdist, so it doesn't surprise me that writing a story like this results in a nonsensical narrative. You can trove through his itch page if you want an example of the kinds of games he made at school.
