I think you're coming from a good place w that but the problem with any organized group is that it eventually devolves into what happened with Alt Furry. Bad people gain and abuse power.

This place works because it's merely a platform. There isn't THAT big of a coordinated effort here amongst users. That involves pre-meditated intent. Here, someone just shouts into the void & you just have to wait and see if you get a response.

Burned Furs was a weird situation but I think the CrushYiffDestroy articles (both part 1 and part 2 are good reading) are a good summary on why it failed. The first problem was that it was trying to preach to the furry fandom about how sexual content was bad. Outsiders already saw the furry fandom as a bunch of sex addicts by then so trying to clean up the fandom wouldn't have done much for them instantly. Furries inside the fandom were passionate about wanting to draw porn and fuck plushies so trying to tell them to fix their shit was pointless. To add to that Burned Furs attracted a lot of exceptional furries including those who couldn't make it in the fandom. What resulted were flamewars on Usenet and other message boards as furries ended up A-Logging each other. In the end Burned Furs became a catch all phrase for furries pissed about the fandom.

Alt Furry died for similar reasons but turned up to eleven. GamerGate devolved into weebs begging for uncensored tits and ComicsGate became grifter's paradise, but Alt Furry ended up even worse than the two. Alt Furry already had the same issues as both Burned Furs and the *Gates, but it was far more explicitly political than the two and didn't disavow people like Foxler. Groups associated with them devolved into /pol/ rejects (places like /pol/ hate furries) and people like Mangcho trying to convert furries into trad Christian supersoldiers. They not only gave left wing furries plenty of ammo, but burnt their movement so hard that even people who agreed with their stances on the fandom distanced themselves as far away as possible. Anyone who was apolitical ended up leaving these groups because they did not want to be around a bunch of edgelords online. Twitter blocklists and the FurAffinity ban wave sealed the deal in this regard as left wing furries made it clear that they'd try to get you blacklisted if you were even assumed to associate with those groups. The other issue with any group trying to be a leaderless movement online is that grifters and opportunists end up becoming the self declared leaders.

But as someone like Charla Trotman/SqueeRat showed, you'll make more money not being in the fandom. Getting banned from DenFur doesn't mean fuck all if you're going to a comic con instead anyhow.

It's also not run by a furry. No furry is going to come up with dirt on Null or blackmail him into shutting the site down because Null isn't in the furry fandom. The movement may have failed but the people involved in it, who mainly left the fandom, did pretty well for themselves after that.
