So Japan has had a law since 2008 that enforces a waist line of 35 inches or less and makes those above go to counselling and a dietitian.
Personally I like this idea but it would absolutely fail to gain traction in most Western places due to the sheer amount of overweight and obese people and HAES BS. In the US alone that is roughly 68.7% of the population according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. If western countries had stemmed obesity issues with a similar program in the 80s then the cost of health care as a whole would be much lower, socialized or not.
Here we seem to be about telling kids what to eat, instead of honestly telling people who are overweight that they are fucking themselves up and rehabing the behavior at no cost to those who honestly need it addressed.
Just found it interesting that this is so much more functional than any Western system and has seen an actual result in fixing the issue over telling kids to "eat your veggies".
