There is a case in I think either Brazil or Argentina where a young kid was featured on national tv because it was a trans-girl. The parents said it was his dream to be a girl and most media went insane over their chance to prove they were so progresive and tolerant. Turned out it was the mother all along: one of the kid's brothers said that the mother was forcing the kid to be a girl and that he himself had been a former victim of hers because, as he was effeminate, the mother would tell him "you're gonna be my little faggot" when he was younger and as he refused to do so, he eventually had to leave the house and she moved on to the next kid. I remembe the family weren't necessarily poor, but they were very much low class, as you would say the equivalent of "white trash". These people don't necessarily want money but fame and relevance and they get so through their children and being trans now pays more than being one of those pageant toddlers.
