I've been reading this for a little while and I have no fucking clue what "Pony" even means in this context. You would think that it would mean girl, since there is a bit where his class gets separated into ponies and humans, and he has to go stand in a closet for being in the pony line like the fag he is, but his mom is referred to as a human. Although he has accused his mom of emotional abuse and threatening him with a knife, so I guess "pony" means "woman who is nice to me".

I know this is meant to be allegorical, but I hope some of the more wild details like how he wore a fake tail and walked around on all fours during school are real.

JDR has an idiosyncratic form of misanthropy where ponies represent everything good in people and humans, often, everything terrible. Also humans should be turned into ponies whether they like it or not for their own good.
