Okay, yeah, I'll admit the name was familiar but I had to look him up to confirm who he was. (I had him confused with Jerry LEE Lewis.)

The statement "he was the worst thing to happen to people with neuromuscular disabilities" is just flat out absurd. It goes back to the idea people with differing political views are incapable of good. Which is just one of the stupidest ideas to have.

Re: Dominik Evans, as a cripple I run across him in disability rights discussions (and every group has its extremists). I haven't interacted with him directly but as the very rare disabled director he's a big wheel in that community. I'm not sure if he qualify as lolcow as for the most part he does seem open to civil discourse. (He was civil to the author of "Me Before You" despite a dissenting opinion about disability portrayal in book and movie.)

But he does...do things like this. Like, he once told someone he "didn't identify as a man" despite being ftm trans and obviously on HRT amd using male pronouns. So he's one of those who uses the non-binary label to avoid being the dreaded straight white male.

ETA: Also on further thought: I'm also sick of this double standard. Lewis' comedy was socially acceptable at the time it was done. Yes culture has changed, but the fun, good, and joy he gave in the past hasn't changed. Plus given how the left has a history of harboring pedophiles and rapists if they say the right things; they have no right to criticize fifty year old jokes.

It doesn't matter what you think about his comedy or politics, you're a cunt if refuse to acknowledged that Jerry Lewis is responsible for raising a literal shit-ton of money for MD research through his telethons. The man wasn't perfect, but his charitable work has positively affected thousands of people over the years.

Also, since it has already been brought up, The Day the Clown Cried wasn't a comedy, it was a serious drama about a guy who ends up in a concentration camp who has to try and keep children distracted before they're sent to a gas chamber. Hopefully now the movie might actually get released.
