Jim Henson’s iconic TV series Fraggle Rock is returning to HBO in HD.

HBO was the original home of the series when it premiered in 1983, and the digitally remastered version will return at the end year on the internet TV network, the Jim Henson Company said today.

Fraggle Rock stars a cast of puppet creatures called Fraggles, quirky cave-dwellers who live in an underground world alongside their industrious green neighbors, the Doozers, and a family of enormous Gorgs. The series follows the fun adventures of the furry subterranean creatures and features a unique mix of music from all genres including folk, blues, gospel, country and rock, all while embracing themes of friendship, tolerance, diversity, and caring for the planet.

The 96-episode series has been seen in over 98 countries and honored with several prestigious awards, including three Cable ACE Awards and five International Emmy Awards.

Would love to see how they go about ruining everyone's childhood remastering the series. Would be a simple upscale, or will the original elements get an upgrade?
I wouldn't be shocked if it was shot on film so they could just do an hd scan.
Might need some cyberairbrushing to hid sins that were expected to get lost in the mists of NTSC.

I think most of Fraggle Rock was shot on video primarily, so I suppose this'll be a case of how far they can take a 30+ years old NTSC video to its limits here.

I'm still amused it'll be on HBO, just like old times, though where I lived, we didn't get HBO as a service until the late 80's, by then I think Fraggle Rock was aired on some other channel like TNT, though for the time it first came out, I probably could've watched it from the CBC as we always had that station out of Windsor, Ontario on our cable service! A lot of Canadian programs that often got picked up by premium channels in the US often could be had for free this way if you live close enough!

CTR plz go.
All right, I take that back.

I just don't expect Lesbians to show up in the remaster unless they start pandering to more than just the children of the 80s.

Yeah, I would love to know how they'd pull it off. Would they fix the matte lines during the scenes with the Traveling Mattes? I really hope they do, they look bad even for the standards of the time.

Yeah, that's true. Assuming they still have those original source videos used to create the full effect. I thought most of that was standard chromakey anyway.
