The FDA has only approved one cannabidiol (CBD) and two cannabinoid derivatives for use, with the former being used primarily to treat seizures and the latter two for appetite management of patients going through AIDS related anorexia treatment or nausea management of patients undergoing chemo. It has not been approved at all for treatment of personality disorders, particularly BPD.
While cannabinoids and CBD can alleviate symptoms of frequently comorbid conditions like depression or anxiety, that as a result tends to mask the underlying disorder, making treatment and mood regulation more difficult. In fact, there is a high correlation between CBD use and BPD, and symptoms are frequently aggravated, particularly in unmedicated individuals.
I won't go too into it because this is a massive topic, but there are two markets for CBD: pharmaceutical and herbal health product. The former is regulated by the FDA where CBD and cannabinoids are unapproved for medicinal use outside of the exceptions listed above. The second market is largely unregulated and the way most people get their medical marijuana fix. (Don't take herbal supplements, by the way: they are frequently cut with chemicals, tainted by toxicants, and there is actually nearly no legal requirement for them to contain what's on the label, at least in the US). Point is, you won't catch any real, reputable psychiatrist prescribing CBD or cannabinoids for any personality disorder. Especially one so addiction prone.
I could rant about the specifics of the endocannabinoid system and why her claim is so inconceivably stupid, but you get the gist. She gave this person the worst possible advice, educated answer my ass. And, darling DesiRican doctor qween, while I am not a psych student, I know a bit about pharma and deeply enjoy fact checking your stupid advice, so keep pretending you have inside industry knowledge lol

In summary: Marijuana hasn't been approved for BPD treatment in the US, and actually makes it less manageable or even worse. It is not some magic, experimental, last resort solution.
