The 75-year old British veteran actor has revealed he has pancreatic cancer. In a statement to PEOPLE, Hurt said: "I have always been open about the way in which I conduct my life and in that spirit I would like to make a statement. I have recently been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team." Hurt was known for his roles in The Elephant Man, Alien, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, V for Vendetta, and whole lot of other movies and shows.

Man, this sucks. Such a great actor does simply not deserve such a ruthless form of cancer. Hope he gets better :(

Pancreatic cancer usually has a really horrible prognosis, but a lot of that is you usually don't get diagnosed early because it's not symptomatic until it's already terminal.

So if they got it earlier than they usually do (maybe because he has other health problems that had him under medical supervision), he might live long enough to die of something else. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg survived pancreatic cancer fairly recently for similar reasons.

Glad they caught it early. Though at his age, the treatments will be brutal.
