Here in Canada, the closing of mental institutions was predicated on two separate premises: to gain support of the NDP types they used the "Muh Mental Institutions are teh inhumane! Free the psychos!" and to gain support of fiscal conservatives, they went with "SAVE LOTS MONEYS!"
So it was a combination of those two factors, that led to mental health care in Canada becoming complete ineffectual trash. For the most part the public health system doesn't cover much of anything about it, either.
The public health system as a whole is trash here too unless you live in or around one of the major cities. So many people have to travel thousands of kilometers just to get treatment for anything serious because the hospitals in their areas suck so much cock.

yeah, in some parts of Canada, you can't even get a family doctor/primary care physician for love or money. All because the Galaxy Smoothbrain Chretien/Martin Liberals thought it would be a great idea to not let so many people train to be doctors back in the early 1990s, in order to save money on paying said doctors when they became full fledged doctors. Now with the boomers getting into their 70s and all the boomer doctors retiring, we have a severe shortage that won't be filled anytime soon, as doctors' pay isn't really all that great and their costs are astronomical.

I imagine importing large quantities of barely competent doctors originating from and trained in some shithole in Africa or the Middle East was a contributing factor in making this decision, being a scheme carried out by the Liberal Party and all (as I'm sure you know they love importing future voters). There are raghead doctors in my rural hometown who are legally not qualified to get a job in the cities but are good enough for us yokels I guess!

strangely enough, for the longest time, if a person was a doctor in another country but then immigrated to Canada, unless they were immigrating from someplace like USA or Great Britain, could not be a doctor in Canada (not without retraining anyway). I guess they changed this, but when?

It had to have been sometime in the 80s or 90s because we have had a revolving door of these worthless glorified drug pushers in our neck of the woods since I was a kid. It could also perhaps be the case that there were/are exceptions made for these laws given the extreme demand for doctors in the more rural areas.

I would wager on sometime in the 90s, as I knew a family from Eastern Europe who escaped to Canada and the dad was a doctor but couldn't be one in Canada and couldn't afford retraining, and that was in the late 80s.

That is pretty brutal but I can definitely understand why the laws were in place. He was probably a lot better trained than most doctors from Africa or the Middle East, but of course even in Eastern Europe at the time I imagine their healthcare standards weren't that great. He should have moved to Newfoundland & Labrador, Northern Ontario or the Yukon or some shit, he probably could have gotten work as a doctor there, though I can't blame someone for not wanting to move to either of those locations even if he would have been the king of shit mountain lmao. Maybe there should have been some sort of series of exams that you could take to challenge this? If someone knows their shit, they know their shit in my opinion and should be treated as such. While I am in no way versed in the processes regarding doctor certification, there had to have been some metric to test this.

All doctors in canada are pretty much indian now and speak broken english in my personal experience and usually just give you lip service.
PL, but Im extra pissed about it today since ive been looking for a family doctor for months to help refill my scripts and was supposed to have a phone appointment yesterday with the only 1 doctor within 3 towns accepting new patients and then they never call. This indian woman dr has missed 3 appts in a row now. You can phone the office and it always goes straight to the answering machine. You check google reviews and its all comments "doctor kept saying he does not know."

Honestly fuck the Canadian healthcare system. And fuck Johnny for putting more stress on the system.

Only good news about healthcare around here is the gov just put aside 7mil to build a new mental health centre at the local hospital, but that was only green lit since theyve been at 200% capacity all year

The primary mental hospital where I'm from was built in the 1860s or something if I recall correctly, which is absolutely fucking disgraceful; there are multiple sections of the facility that are condemned and no one is allowed to enter. Needless to say it is reviled and no one wants to go there for any reason. They are supposedly building a new one but that will probably take years if it even comes to fruition.

They closed the hospitals in the states for the "patients" rights.
It's really a joke, an inexact science, pushing pills, to people on govt. benefits, so the govt pays the bill
I'm a firm believer that big pharma creates customers, not cures with their biggest customer being the government.
In the states homelessness is tied to mental health. They say they need more money to solve it, then use that money for surveys, studies, research, & little goes to actually helping.
Calif in the early 2000's passed a tax on people with incomes over 1 million..a $10,000 added tax to go directly to mental health.
The economy crashed in '08 & Calif started closing mental health clinics...All the extra money didn't change a goddamn thing...just wasted on bureaucracy.

You make money with them on the streets, pumping them full of pills (profit) & not providing for their needs (cost effectiveness)

It's near impossible to get someone conservatorship.
"As long as they can provide for their basic needs"
Eating out of dumpsters & wearing rags while talking to invisible people? You're good to go.
Kinda sad that more care is shown to stray Dogs

So now imagine our boy in the system? Imagine the cost to the govt.?
I can see him being non compliant with any meds or treatment provided.
He would be fighting them all the way & using the courts to do it.
I can see jonny being extremely expensive to treat.
Maybe that's the reason they haven't taken action yet, as once they do? they're committed to JY for life (his).

Homelessness is tied to mental health here too but also drug addiction; there's some overlap as many people on drugs are trying to self-medicate for their (undiagnosed or diagnosed) mental disorders. If a person is on "disability", then medications are paid for; but there are some meds that are not covered. I think Methadone is covered, though.

You can get free "heroin" from the BC government now if referred to the program by a doctor. They even have a vending machine that scans your hand to identify if you're part of the program, and then dispenses your drugs and associated paraphernalia. To be clear, I don't think it's actually heroin but rather dilaudid that is dispensed from the machine.... but it's a strong opioid so it's an easy transition from heroin (dilaudid is perhaps less euphoric than heroin but close enough for the junkies to stay healthy).

the hospital at least in my area sorta goes between using dilaudid and morphine as IV/pill-based painkillers for people who are in a lot of pain. Having had both (at different surgeries), I'm not a big fan of hydromorph (dilaudid), and I assume there's some people that feel the same way. The premier was trying to get the hard shit decriminalized so that he could give away free actual heroin to junkies (not simply a sub like hydromorph or methadone).

It used to be that most doctors coming to the US had to have more training or pass hardcore certification before they could practice here. I know a couple of nurses who currently work with other nurses who were doctors in their home countries.

The mental healthcare system is a nightmare. Currently there is a dearth of qualified, not to mention highly qualified, psychiatrists. As someone else mentioned, many are retiring and there is a coming shortage in terms of med school, training as well. We're fucked.

The Conservancy issue is literally designed insanity. I know a psych nurse who works in downtown LA and daily comes across patients who should be put under Conservancy. Sure is easy to put Britney Spears (worth millions) Amanda Bynes and others under it for years and years tho.

Once Miriam dies, Johnnyboi will cause havoc wherever he goes, never being functional in society.

Can jonny still do a plea bargain at this point?
Or going in front of a judge?
This should answer your questions. It works a little differently in Canada. But yes, he could still plea bargain

The salient bit in that article:

This is when an accused person agrees to waive their right to a trial and plead guilty early in exchange for the Crown agreeing to ask for a specific sentence.

Yaniv has given up the opportunity to plea bargain. He's going to trial. Presumably he's entered a plea of not guilty. I suspect the guilty plea for the weapons offence was an attempt at plea bargaining.

It's worth pointing out that Johnny can keep a non guilty plea up until the day of trial and then flop it on the courts last minute to plea bargain if he changes his mind.

What would be interesting is if the prosecutors got their hands on that video of him the other day threatening to kill that teenage girl and saying how he has weapons on him. That's more than a blatant breech of bail and would have him rearraigned on new charges in a second and he won't be able to catch bail a second time.
