I'm sure @Judge Holden would like this. Especially since I first saw this in a dollar store, which is the best indicator of a book's quality.

ABOUT JOSS WHEDON: THE COMPLETE COMPANION
THE ESSENTIAL UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO THE WHEDONVERSE

Joss Whedon’s importance in contemporary pop culture can hardly be overstated, but there has never been a book providing a comprehensive survey of his career as a whole – until now. The Complete Companion covers every aspect of the Whedonverse through insightful essays and interviews, including fascinating conversations with key collaborators Jane Espenson and Tim Minear.

Over 40 contributors have been brought together by PopMatters, the acclaimed international magazine of cultural criticism, to provide an irresistible mix of analysis, interpretation and sheer celebration. Whether you’re a student looking for critical approaches to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or a Browncoat who follows Nathan Fillion on Twitter (or, let’s face it, both) there is plenty here to enjoy.

Covers all the TV series, movies, and comic books, including:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Fray, Astonishing X-Men, The Avengers… and more!

Joss Whedon's a major influence on pop culture....unfortunately his influence is largely negative.

Buffy was good and Dr. Horrible was okay as a quick comedy, and that was it. Joss is a one-trick pony like M. Night was, only his one trick is quippy snarky dialogue instead of shocking swerve twist endings

"Whedon universe" is such a weird concept. This isn't the MCU, or Kinoko Nasu's insane sprawl, it's just a bunch of random shit this guy who did a good show that one time did. Why is it being presented as a "universe?"

...oh, right, because his shit is so formulaic that everything he does is just a reskin of everything else. Petite brunette with superpowers, quip, snark, rinse, repeat.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a group of autists who believe that every one of Whedon's work is in the same universe.

I wonder who are the literal whos who contributed to this dreck.

TV Tropes.

No seriously, TV Tropes in its early years helped popularize the concept of the Whedonverse and Fast Eddie was a colossal Whedon sperg. TV Tropes started as a Buffy fansite in the early 2000's, before it became what it is today

Cracked also had a brief segment in their After Hours show dedicated to airing out this theory, but that show was so creatively bankrupt by the end they might have just been quoting the TvTropes stuff @Syaoran Li brought up. I remember they got as far as saying the ending of Cabin in the Woods was the reason Earth was fucked up in Firefly.

That’s the stupidest explanation for Earth That Was I’ve ever heard.

It doesn't help that the success of Buffy in the 90s led to such bullshit as "Buffy studies" in college courses.

I mean, I like Buffy and Firefly well enough, but Buffy only seemed to get really good when Marti Noxon was given the reigns.

Does the book delve into the fact that Whedon is a complete hypocrite who has committed infidelity on numerous occasions and that according to Ray Fisher he treated the cast of JL like shit?
On that note, does it also talk about how he blamed the Patriarchy for his infidelity?

+1 to Whedon's shit not having aged well.

It worked for Buffy, but has gotten painfully obvious and cliche in everything else he's done.

It's gotten so bad, that sometimes characters in his work no longer have actual conversations and just freeform quip about their surroundings.

Nevermind he's the nu-femenist sex pest who openly used his position to cheat on his wife and run a casting couch.

The day will arrive when people stop sucking this guy's dick. It will arrive and I will rejoice.
Haven't they though? Wasn't the he mostly canceled after the whole infidelity thing? Looking at his IMDB he's basically done nothing for the last 5 years. Justice League, Agents of SHIELD, The Nevers, and Lurk are the only things he's done since his wife wrote that article. Justice League was a flop that he tried to distance himself from (which he does whenever he makes something garbage) and Lurk was another flop that he didn't even need to distance himself from because no one even knew about it. The Nevers hasn't been released yet and hopefully the COVID will put a fork in it. Agents of SHIELD was generally disliked and has been shedding viewers like crazy.

It kind of caught me off guard that being a creepy pervert was what finally did him in considering that it was so obvious that that's what he was; he just seemed like teflon for so long. I remember in my early days of hating Joss I was called a misogynist for hating him. Then it turned out that I was actually a radical feminist for hating Joss Whedon. Then it went back to being a misogynist. He was clearly pissing people off on both sides and the crew-fucking along with the absolutely transparent attempt to justify his predatory behavior towards his cast and his abusive behavior towards his wife by claiming that the patriarchy made him do it he managed to completely wipe out any good will he might have been able to retreat behind. He's gone. Thank god.

Eh, the thing is that I'm not sure Joss is actually "cancelled" like a lot of the others were, By the time he did Age of Ultron, he was more or less set and the cancer of his writing style had spread to the rest of Hollywood.

My guess is that his wife outing him as an adulterer was enough to get him to pipe down but he probably decided to keep his head down once Weinstein got busted and the MeToo movement started gaining steam.

IIRC, nearly all of Whedon's encounters were creepy and unfaithful but were consensual in the legal sense of the word. Since most of the allegations were just before MeToo, he was probably just smart enough to keep his head down and not get outed for something worse. Weaselly little punks like him tend to be like that.

Joss Whedon's a scumbag and an untalented hack but he's still mostly teflon should he try to do a comeback since he's the guy who did The Avengers and he's got his cult of beardo bugmen who love him for Marvel and Firefly. I hope to God he doesn't try to stage some kind of a comeback in the 2020's, but there's a good chance he will at least try.

He's a sleazy scumbag but he's probably the one guy in the MeToo phenomenon who is guilty that can still try to rebuild his career simply by sitting on his stacks of money and waiting it out until enough time has passed and he can say "Member Buffy? Member The Avengers?" and all the neckbeards and dangerhairs will gladly fall in line and pay money for whatever garbage he puts out.

TL;DR-Whedon's crashed and burned for now, but I wouldn't count him out just yet
