Yeah, the 18yo has a history of eating disorders and self-harm and the 30yo used that to her advantage. She's into self-harm as an aesthetic, does it to herself as well, and gets off on it too. :/ With him being her sub, he carved "owned" into his leg so she could watch over skype. Oh man, Second. The really great story about them is how the people in their social circle (Dreamwidth roleplaying) tried to get the FBI on their ass. There's also insanely gross tumblrs full of pictures of them.

The FBI was involved because the minor in this situation was Canadian and, in short, she was importing him for a weird D/s marriage. (Getting the FBI involved was really dumb and nothing came of it, just FYI.) There was also unsafe BDSM stuff. (Like, she told him to cut himself over a webcam.)

DWRP is very opaque, hard to explain, and full of the most legitimately insane people I've ever seen in my life. If you want a fun rabbit hole, google "wankgate" and then "Hellion."

Specifically what was the dumb part of getting the FBI involved in what is obviously international child grooming? That's pretty much the model for what you do in that situation. In fact, depending on your jurisdiction and your job, it might be a crime for you not to report such child sex abuse. A lot of people are mandatory reporters.

What is "really dumb" is being public about brazenly illegal shit of this specific kind, because your audience almost certainly includes people in this class of mandatory reporter, who could be prosecuted for not reporting or, at best, their careers would be over.

Never mind a lot of people will take great pleasure in doing it without even being required to. Think Nick Bate.

There are other crimes like this that some people are mandatory reporters for, like money laundering, but those laws usually only apply to a narrow set of people like bankers. Still, that's another set of things it would be really dumb to admit to in public, not that admitting to crimes in public is ever smart.

Fucking Homestuck, indeed. There's something really skin-crawlingly unpleasant about this, isn't there? I mean, indifferently-written Homestuck smut is just part of the internet's general background noise. Being uninvested in the fandom, it's hard to get worked up about what's mostly dumb kid stuff.

But then we have this woman, who not only appears to have made some of her own teeth out of Crayola Model Magic, but also really, really enjoys writing explicit stories about underage characters in situations of dubious consent. Moreover, she uses her position in the fandom to connect with much younger people including literal children, moving from being a "writing buddy," to encouraging self-destructive behavior for her personal gratification, to actually bringing them into her household where she is free to violate them physically as well as emotionally.

And just like that, the boundary between fiction and reality seems quite perilous, and these middling little stories become the sort of thing that keeps a person up nights. I'd actually admire this from a literary standpoint, if only real people weren't being damaged by it. Jeepers Christmas, what an horrid mess.
