To be fair, her (adopted) sister (bio moms ex-gf) and one brother were both addicts and died of overdoses, as did her bio mom. She probably saw them high a lot growing up which could actually be traumatic, as anyone who has lived with an active addict can attest to.

Depending on your group, I think a roleplay-heavy session can be great for first-timers. They can worry less about remembering modifiers and buffs and just relax into their characters. Unfortunately, it seems like she both over-prepped and under-prepped. An RP-heavy game needs a strong setting and a gentle plotline, to give the characters a chance to explore and interact, but she came on with a weak setting and a heavy plotline.

I'm curious to see how this will progress.

A lot of the theory behind the PbtA system is avoiding overprepping; ideally a game should be ready to run in half an hour or less. However, as part of that the players also have a lot more influence over the shape of the world than in a more standard format like dnd. It's probably the worst choice of system to run if you're a raging narc who doesn't know how to appropriately play off of other people.

You can still have bad mental health issues and be born into wealth. You aren’t immune to mental health issues just because your family might be well off. Yes, the people Jude associates with are pretty bad themselves, but this is my first time seeing her on Jude’s feed so I don’t think it’s like the relationship she has with people like Joyce. Also, Jude is living proof that going through some hardship doesn’t make you a good person. There are plenty of people that go through hardships that are great people, but Jude is not one of them.
