A recent interview with his mentor gave a lot of background info. According to him, Jürgen was a model soldier, who saw too much shit (Croatia, Iraq, Afghanistan) and did tours too frequently. Was exposed to neo nazi propaganda through a colleague circa 2015, which lead to multiple arrests and interactions with the police over minor shit. He even provided training in Eastern Europe for a local far right org. While clearly sympathetic to their cause, his role was that of a follower. Eventually, there was an altercation between him and his superior, after which he was demoted from active duty to office job (oversaw munitions, hence the ease of access to weapons and ammunition).
He tried to apply for a different position afterwards, but didn't succeed. Seperated from his wife (current partner was his girlfriend, not the mother of his children) not ten years ago and recent family troubles were what caused him to snap.
They still haven't found him, he may become the Belgian Sam Hyde yet.
They weren't able to provide tents during the beginning of the Corona crisis, don't overestimate them.
