Can you tell us more about the felony?

The victim has to be her ex-boyfriend, he has a restraining order out on her. A quick google of Michigan law brings up a couple of relevant things.

I've been charged with committing great bodily harm less than murder and my accuser is my girlfriend/boyfriend. Are there special things I should know?

There are three unique factors that will affect you.

First, you must understand that at Arraignment, the Court will impose a Bond condition called a No Contact Order. You will not be allowed to have ANY contact with this person (in-person, phone, text, e-mail, social media) during your case and perhaps long after if you are convicted of Assault GBH. This is just like in a Domestic Violence charge. You can make a Motion to remove the No Contact Order, but that is very hard in a serious felony case like this. If you live with that person, one of you will need to temporarily move-out. If you violate a No Contact Order in Michigan and the Court finds-out, plan on going to Jail.

Also, I think they threw the book at her, due to the fact it was a domestic attack. The line between Assault and GBH is blurry and confusing, but aggravated assault is a misdemeanor instead of a felony, and carries a maximum sentence 1/10th of the length. The way they decide it appears to be on intent rather than injuries? The lawyers had this to say on the matter:

we have had clients accused of breaking limbs requiring surgery who were charged with misdemeanor Aggravated Assault, while other clients accused of causing a black eye have been charged with the very serious felony Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder. Victim was stabbed within an 1/8 inch of his heart. Was left to bleed out on the kitchen floor until this atrocisity came back an would only call 911 if boyfriend said he stabbed himself. Cops came and saw right through this. Kassie was seen by neighbors laughing while being cuffed and taken to cop car. Victim (whose name shall remain anon.) underwent several surgeries and now has a permanent metal stint in artery .

Victims mother broke into tears at sentencing, knowing her son almost died and the slap on the wrist she was given. If a man had done this he would be in prison without a doubt.

Why was he stabbed? Kassie had just begun her heroin addiction and bf was trying to stop her from leaving the house to get more dope. (Add that she had no money so one could only imagine how she was getting it )

No as far as is known, still on probation. This occurred august of 2015 and wasn't sentenced till sometime winter 2016.

Point is it's fucked up tht an attention seeking can slip through the cracks so easily. I'm asking the community to help "repay" someone who contributes so greatly to our society. Open q and a, ask me anything.

Oh, and no daddy issues. Her father is a rather successful man down in Tennessee. He kicked her out and sent her to her mom (michigan) cause she was sneaking out and doing drugs with creepy old people. Feel bad for the man.
