Her leghole picture two days before surgery looks pretty clean. Not useful as legs or anything, but clean. There was even hair growing on the skin near the wounds, and the skin was a normal color. (Fucking leg hair, it never gives up without a dose of chemo.) Two months ago, it was full of nasty yellow pus and infection and wet tissue and looked like it was about to kill her. So I’m kind of impressed they got it that dry. When amputation day came around, they probably didn’t have many vessels left to cauterize.

Kelly looks pretty proud of herself, waving those stumps around (and continually reminding us they are called stumps.). I don’t think she’ll pick for a while, she’s pretty pleased with herself. But when all this is over, PT is done, she gets her prosthesis, doctors discharge her, and people aren’t rooting her on for being the bestest widdle patient, she’ll be nothing-just healthy at home. The phone will be silent, nothing to do, nowhere to go, and she’ll look over to the bathroom and see her curling iron. And suddenly, Bechets will be back.

Yes, she'd love the constant attention in a nursing home. She'd try to be "inspirational" for the other patients, and get off on the old ladies "poor dear blah blah ballerina" talking about her.

I wouldn't be surprised if she tries to get invited to local schools to be an inspiration to the children or some bullshit.

We used to have school "assemblies" once a year where "special guest speakers" would talk about their limb amputations or going blind or whatever. The guy with AIDS who admitted he still had sex without telling his partners was a good one; this was back when HIV was 100% fatal.

Yep, we assumed it was with the scissors because she posted pics of her using said scissors on her once nicely healing grafts because they were "itchy".

I'm kind of amazed that other than the gaping hole on one leg, and fully exposed bone on the other, the surrounding skin is healed. What happened to the beef jerky? Would be interesting to see her feet at that stage too.

It's because she was "wildly septic" according to her doctor so they had her on IV antibiotics for days and she was on 1:1 with a nurse at all times to mitigate the picking as much as possible. With literal holes through her legs her wounds actually healed that much just because she had some medicine and couldn't fuck with them. All of this was entirely preventable.

"Wildly septic" means nearly dead. Kelly is skirting it (we know she'll manage to infect something else) but I guess Jaquie still wins the title of deadliest munchie since she went so young.

I generally agree about Jaquie being the prime example, but for her it was mostly an accident+consequences of previous fuckery.

No worries on this. The pathologist rarely ever sees specimens themselves, unless they're called for an intraoperative consultation or there's some question about the anatomy or pre-op diagnosis. Most of the time, the actual physician just sees slides. Cases like this, in which the diagnosis is already certain, are usually noted as "gross only", which means that there won't even be slides.

Sometimes I wonder about those dawning moments of horror when doctors realize she's insane, or how they feel when reading notes from another doctor then hearing her lie. And what it must be like to see the evidence. Like when Kelly had gross black sores all over her legs, before it turned into swaths of beef jerky and then leg holes, I bet there were way more on the fronts/sides of her legs than the back/awkward to reach spots.

Imagining the point of view of the doctors and how they manage patients they know are mentally ill liars is such a mindfuck. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the doctors and nurses discuss Kelly with one another. Those screenshots of the doc asking for advice before her amputation were fascinating.

Depends on the hospital it seems. My cousin works in path. I've got him hooked on Kelly's case LOL. He's seen quite a few foul specimens and amputations but nothing as wild as Kelly. The fact that she scraped her own bone just blew his mind.

She just can't stand getting healthier, now can she.

She absolutely hates that she's doing well. She posted an arguably positive update about her progress but couldn't help herself and had to add two horrific pictures of her maimed legs, like she's nostalgic about that horrifying sight.

Looking at her now, she is very thin vs how she was before the whole infection saga. That thing almost did her in, clearly. I don't think she realizes this, she was probably stoked to be back at a low weight and thought she could maintain that. Gaining weight is also a positive sign of recovery, so an added reason to hate it.

all you've got to do is look through what she herself posted to see dirty fingernails scratching the inside of an open wound, dirty scissors cutting into a pustulent scab, debridement marks on the bone itself, her poking into the open holes with random objects. We don't even need any other evidence; she's given it all to the public freely.

Medsperg: Kelly’s a perfect example of the gate control theory of pain. Descending pain control pathways meant that she did not feel the level of pain that another person would when she was inflicting that damage on her legs. More information below. (Very technical)
It is similar to the cases of sports people not realising that they have a really serious injury until after the game.

Those photos were taken in her bedroom. How did she have 1:1 24/7 with a nurse? There is discoloration in her toes, the skin is flaking, the bone is severely broken down. No wonder she was septic. She said it's the day before, but who knows.
My point was that once she got the hole through her legs a few months ago, she left the outside alone. That amount of healing takes more than a few days.
