They're vultures who took it out of context on purpose.
Agreed they are so pathetic that they took ClownfishTV out of context just because they don't want to mourn with people they don't like on Miura's passing.

I kind of get what ClownfishTV was saying. Form what I read Miura legit put all his life in his work that I could see stress being one of the causes of his death. He put in his all so people could enjoy it.

Out of curiosity, how are the Berserk movies? I know the anime is a bit iffy.

They are alright. Some things are rushed, the music is not as great as the 97 anime and the movies cut out Wyald. Just like every adaptation.

Which was my main reason for being excited for the movies. Since, I thought they could include him in a movie. I was wrong.

Fuck do I love that fight.

So you are still better off watching the 97 anime in my opinion.

So every adaptation has it's strengths and it's shortcomings. As @KEKMUHLORD stated, it feels at times rushed. From the victory at Doldrey to Griffith's rescue from the torture dungeon it moves at an almost blistering pace. They omit alot of the interactions after Guts is enlisted in the Band of the Hawk; and they don't even show Guts' promotion to captain of the Raiders. They cut Wylad which is unforgivable... this is twice we've been denied chad rape monkey. But they did include Skull Knight and Silat; two glaring omissions from the 90's adaptation (Silat is arguable, Skully is inexcusable given his part in the Advent Eclipse).

Part 1 has the most egregious graphical fidelity. It's by no means the visual excrement that is BERSERK 2016/2017, but there's ALOT of janky and stilted 3DCG used for the large scale battles and it looks like shit; but when they actually use traditional animation it usually looks downright gorgeous. The 3DCG is used less and less with each part, and in lower lit environments. Part 3 especially looks beyond beautiful; just about any landscape or wide shot could be a wallpaper.

The music is very hit-or-miss. Some tracks are straight up gems that nail the theme, but they're the minority as alot of it consists of anemic background pieces with a few flourishes. There's a really fun yet desperate acoustic guitar melody for The 100 Man Fight that had me smiling. The voicework though... Gone are some of the "appropriate for it's time" cheesiness that the 90's adaptation uses. All of the OG voice actors return aside from Crokus. Marc Diraison fucking kills it though. He BECOMES Guts, and he was at his absolute peak for Parts 2 & 3.

Is it better than the 97 anime? Nah... But by no means is it deserving of the shit that was heaped on it upon it's initial release. And it's leagues better than that 2016/2017 abortion.

The movies were how I got into Berserk, and even I could tell they were condensing a lot of plot detail in order to feasibly fit into three movies. I didn't care much for the CGI, it looked like an early PS2 game at times, but it did get better as the films progressed, with part 3 looking downright gorgeous at time.

Despite the problems, it still is Berserk. The characters are still there and the emotion is still present. Even with all the condensing, Miura's writing and intentions still shine through. Part 3 in particular manages to capture the raw power of story near perfectly, especially in its depiction of the Eclipse. Even with the uneven quality of the first two, they still successfully build to the climax of the Golden Age, and in the end I think that's what matters most when adapting the Golden Age arc.

If you know the Golden Age inside and out, I wouldn't really recommend it since the first two cut out quite a bit of material. If you're a fan of the anime, all you're really getting out of it are updated vocal performances from the original dub (and that's assuming you're watching the dub at all). I think they work better as an entry point for newcomers who want a quick and dirty rundown of the most famous arc in Berserk. I do at least recommend Part 3 because it is basically an adaptation of the Eclipse and it translates what made that part so gut-wrenching incredibly well.

I‘ve been gone for the past couple of days and I recently found out on Amazon that all of the eight deluxe edition volumes (including the one that isn’t scheduled until a November release) is temporarily sold out.

Thankfully I already ordered the first three, but it will be a while until I get volumes 4-7.

Is there any extras in the hardbound edition that aren't in the paperbacks, or any reason to buy them over paperback/digital?
Just higher quality picture and size. There are also 3 volumes in each edition.

I like them cause seeing Miura's artwork at that size and quality is nuts.

Really makes you appreciate his crazy artwork even more.

The thing is, the 90s anime has one of the most unsatisfying endings I've ever seen in an anime. Also, episode 1 (and the jarring transition to ep 2) really makes no sense to a new viewer.
The director hated the Skull Knight and Puck for some reason and got permission from Miura to leave them out, even though the Skull Knight was necessary to the ending of the story arc.

So I find the movies a more satisfying viewing experience. I also don't hate the CGI TV series. Compared to the disappointment that was Fist of the Blue Sky: Regenesis, it looks like a masterpiece.

Yeah they're all gone. I guess people were like "shit time to get into Berserk". I ordered all of them. I JUST got an email where the expected delivery date for Volume 3 is July 25th-26th. Holy shit. So if you want the deluxe volumes, I guess find them elsewhere if you want them quickly. And that's just one volume of 7. I guess its nice to get them on layaway sort of.

When I ordered the first three deluxe editions, I bought them off of AbeBooks. The second edition is on its way soon, but the first and third editions were shipped, yet there’s no tracking number from USPS or DHL.

The notice said it should be from 4 or 5 to 16 days to get here. :\
