It isn't exactly the most "tolerant" or "politically correct" view, but my opinion is that these people are likely mentally ill or psychologically disturbed in some way. Most sane, rational, intelligent people would consider having an elective cosmetic surgery which results in lifelong complications and discomfort, and which has such a high risk of failure or not healing properly, a stupid idea. I mean, most people would consider any unnecessary invasive surgery a bad idea. You typically don't want to be cut to pieces unless it's actually necessary. But the surgery is just part of it. If any otherwise normal person who genuinely believes they were born the wrong gender wants to have the surgery done, but otherwise just wants to live their life normally and isn't shoving their gender identity down everyone's throats or is looking to receive preferential treatment from everyone just because they're "special", then I've got more or less a live and let live attitude about it. My problem lies with these gender special idiots who demand to be treated better than everyone else, be the center of attention, and who believe they are above criticism or working to earn a living and should be supported by everyone else because they're "queer" or whatever. I think that kind of mindset and going to such extremes because of it stems from a profoundly disturbed mind.
