I've generally considered Ramachandran's work very good, though, and he's well-respected afaik, so it might be a fun read. If I had to take a guess, though, I'd say it's probably a case of "guy writes an article about an odd medical phenomenon, laypeople troons take this as gospel validation of their speshul identity feels".

I mean yeah I'll give Penny credit for being buff, but it's very weird to me that she takes so much pride in masculine things: biceps, guns, and ranching. Her taste in pop culture seems to be generic male nerd too (that Star Wars hat she always wears etc). It's just... why did you think you were a woman when there's nothing feminine in your personality? Could be degenerate sexual reasons, of course, but Penny is supposedly asexual, into BDSM somewhat but apparently not that interested in actual sex? Probably just depression and general self hatred; to me the most insidious thing about the recent trans boom is that so many of them, especially mtfs, are just dudes who feel like failures due to lack of social/sexual success, hate themselves and want to become a different person. Add to that the promise of a whole community that will mindlessly affirm and praise you, plus the fact that it gives your life a heroic narrative (I was unhappy but now I'm bravely going against a bigoted culture to be my true authentic self etc). Yeah if you're on beta blockers or similar medication which affects your heart rhythm or lowers your blood pressure then your hands and feet may feel the cold more. Cold extremities is not a side effect of estrogen therapy, Kevin is just a fat retard who has poor blood flow because he does nothing but tweet, coom and consoom all day.
