It only takes one moment of irrationality fueled by endless moments of aimless resentment to create a situation that escalates far beyond what that irrational thought entailed. You huff your own piss and vinegar long enough to start an outburst that snowballs out of your control, or get so worked up that you act on an impulse you can't take back.

They don't necessarily need the spine to kill with intent. Just being mentally ill and emotionally unstable enough to feel justified in firing a 'warning shot' or running up waving a pistol and yelling can create a situation that ends with leaky meat suits.
