So this Toronto-area cosplay photographer has been making the rounds on /cgl/ lately - Kevin Ly, AKA Novii Photography. Formerly renowned for his fantastic cosplay photography, he was recently outed as a manipulative sociopath who was using his "hobby" as a means into forcing and terrorizing cosplay girls into having sex with him.

The thing about these women: some of them are cows (there are a couple who could even merit their own threads here), but a lot of them have genuine mental issues and trauma that they need to deal with. Mental illness is very common in most cosplay communities, so the issue here, I feel, is whether people are beyond help or not and/or are self aware.

So this guys entire world revolves around trying to get his dick wet no matter what? I never got that sort of thinking when prostitutes exist. Do they have some sort of "honor code" about this stuff? They'd go after a mentally retarded 14 yr old before they'd hire a prostitute or something? Just so they could say "they got laid"?

Probably a combination of two things:
-People like him have a cosplay/anime girl fetish, and possibly specific waifus.
-People like him view prostitutes as "dirty"/"risky", "meaningless" and "expensive"; in fact, he probably wanted the cosplay girls as submissive long-term sex partners rather than just fleeting experiences.

He's gross, but I don't know that I feel that much sympathy for his victims, either. A lot of these girls use their sexuality to manipulate people into doing things for them for free, or to make money. If you don't involve yourself in an industry where sex is currency, you might be safer from predators. That said, male photographers beings inappropriate with female models is a problem in mainstream modeling, too, so who knows?

Teenagers are stupid and think they know what they're doing, especially at places like cons where they run rampant unsupervised and are usually drunk to boot. They're stupid and vulnerable, not calculating succubi. And most cosplayers are just doing it for fun, even the ones that do photoshoots - not every cosplayer is a Momokun who uses their tits for attention.

Nope, and I think it's outright been stated that the drama fizzled out. For all his faults, it seems he's lying low rather than chimping out and remaining a spectacle like this site's finest.

There hasn't been a large comic convention in Toronto since mid- March, and that one is usually lacklustre at best.
There's TCAF, but it's not cosplay friendly, really.
Wait until FanExpo at the end of August to see this guy get back in action.
