In a rare moment of clarity, Chris fully understands that he broke the rules and decides to amend his mistake. Too bad the Kickstarter's still just for Legos.

As stated previously, Chris seems to be dealing with this with a surprising amount of aplomb. He should switch to giving away art or medallions instead of Lego sets, it'd be a safer bet. Bite-sized "Sonichu" strips, in the tradition of daily or Sunday funnies, might also be a possibility.

I pledged a dollar just to get on the mailing list, but if he offered four-panel Sonichu strips at like the $5 tier I'd totally be down for that.

Not that he'd reach his 5K anyway, but.

also he still doesnt *quite* get it, unless he intends to hand-engrave those bricks
I got the impression that is what he intends, and they would look terrible. :alog:

I think this might be the first time he's actually reacted to a setback in a sensible fashion. Maybe he's trying to stay on Kickstarter's good side in the hope that they'll let him try again. I hesitate to say "Chris has changed," because in my experience that's immediately followed by some childish rant on Facebook calling people "dodo brains" or something, but still.

Is that... Does that solve it? It's still just sending someone Lego, and he can't really engrave something into the bricks (he can sign them, but if that's good enough, then why not just sign the boxes of Lego?); I honestly don't have any idea if this scheme will work or not.

There's no scheme, Chris just made the very, very late discovery that one can make money off the internet. Now, eBay was somewhat successful so he tried something new. He's still Chris so much of what he offers is silly and not anywhere near as creative and awesome as he thinks it is, but I don't think there's any malice on his part. In his mind he's just doing an artistic service for a reasonable price.

No, I mean, the idea of "send me two bricks and I'll send you one" is surely a scheme to tap into the pockets of his devotees (I won't say "fans" but if you pay him a hundred dollars for a scribble then a devotee ought to sum it up). He was literately saying "pay me 2x so I can buy Lego and I will buy you 1x of Lego in return."

EDIT: If anything, going from "I'll buy you a set in return" to "you'll get a brick" or even "I'll put a brick into MY thing" ought to be a step backwards!

"Engraved bricks?" Does he have proper equipment for this?

And he really is realizing some errors of his ways. It's a conspiracy, mind control I tell you!

In a way it is worse, but it is more in line with Kickstarter. The rewards are supposed to be little personalized thank yous, as opposed to value for the money. Chris does not need to claim that he would sell you a lego brick with something scratched in it for $50 to make that the $50 reward. All he needs to claim is that you cannot buy it for yourself from somewhere else.

If he goes through with this then in a couple weeks we're going to see angry FB posts about how he had to shell out for a Dremel or something to engrave the bricks, so people need to buy his eBay shit NOW NOW NOW to keep his bank account out of the red.

Either that or he's going to use, like, his pocket knife to scratch his initials into the bricks.

A local playground around here has a sidewalk paved with bricks engraved with donors' names. It's the same thing here, except for the part about the community getting to enjoy a public place paid for by the generosity of donors. Sign me up!
