I beg to differ. People tend to look down on video games as irrelevant toys, but when it comes to the economical aspects, you have to accept that they are a massive industry nowadays that generates insane amounts of cash. That is precisely why GG did have a point when it came to journos pushing their agendas and the cronyism that went with it. One can mock them all one likes for being video game spergs sperging over video game journalism, but in the end, said journalism has a clear impact on a multi-billion-dollar industry.

All that really has to be said is the following - in terms of per-year revenue, packaged console gaming alone is massively outpacing TV, movies and music. Factor in phone gaming, and you're talking a single entertainment medium worth more than all other mainstream entertainment -combined-. In other words, they reach more people (and make more money) than any other entertainment medium out there.

Fortunately, the sphere of influence even established "real" journalists have on video games is minimal at best - everybody, even the most disengaged person who only buys like one game a year, would rather watch a Youtube video or just ask a friend what's good than go to Kotaku et al or, heaven forbid, pay for a magazine and read their reviews. Anybody still listening for reasons other than humouring friends or former colleagues has such little impact on the medium as a whole that it's actually kind of sad to watch them still believe they're important or valued.

• Bitch about Witcher 3.
• Historians can't be 100% sure there were no blacks in 1470 Bohemia, so might as well include them.

Someone they knew used their account and posted that blacks were a statistically insignificant minority during the time period. Then the main users were informed of the ensuing butthurt, fired him, banned him, called him a bigot,and are publicly crucifying him on twitter. They're also planning to delete the tweets later. According to the reviewer's friend there were probably black people in large German cities so obviously rural Czech villages would be bursting at the seams with them. This is half of the entire review and he refuses to recommend the game to readers because of it.

It's not conclusive proof but it's readily available doubt to undermine Warhorse's interpretation. What muddies the water further is whose interpretation it overridingly is: creative director, writer and Warhorse co-founder Daniel Vavra's. He has been a vocal supporter of GamerGate and involved in antagonistic exchanges on Twitter (collected in a ResetEra thread). More recently, he wore the same T-shirt depicting an album cover by the band Burzum every day at Gamescom 2017 - a very visible time for him and his game. Burzum is the work of one man: Varg Vikernes, a convicted murderer and outspoken voice on racial purity and supremacy. He even identified as a Nazi for a while.

This isn't to say Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a hotbed of racism, because it isn't. The Turkic Cumans speak a different language and are a hostile enemy, which seems like a limited portrayal but no less so than any other war game I can think of. Then again, I'm white, so maybe I've missed things. And racism can take many forms, one of them being exclusion.

More apparent to me was the back-slapping laddishness revolving around bedding women. I'm pursuing a love story over here, while over there bedding a noble and having one-night stands. That's in addition to my Troubadour perk which makes me even more irresistible to women and lets me use the "bathwenches" for free, which ties into a key mechanic of keeping yourself clean and patched up. It also means I get the Alpha Male buff (+2 to Charisma) because I've been satisfied and apparently it shows. It literally says that. The game's Codex even feels the need to describe the ideal woman of the time: "a thin, pale woman with long blonde hair, small rounded breasts, relatively narrow hips and a narrow waist".

All of which means that a shadow lingers over Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Instead of challenging the Dark Age it reinterprets 615 years later, the game seems to delight in it. Instead of seeing notes in the margin of a history book, we get what feels like a glossy pamphlet advertising an escape into an oddly romanticised past. And it's that, ultimately, which makes me too uneasy about Warhorse's work to be able to recommend it."

I don't know what's dumber: pointing to The Silk Road as an argument for black traders being in Bohemia when The Silk Road was Chinese and likely would be several times removed from its initial traders by the time it got there, or making up a hypothetical scenario with no historical evidence to back it up while never once considering that an unwed girl getting knocked up in the 1400s by an obviously foreign traveler might become a problem.

i want to clarify a little more on this

this game is aiming to be historically accurate. this meant that the developers had to learn about various fighting techniques along with various weapons that were used. Not only this, they also had to find out what it was like being someone in the middle ages. I'm guessing they had to hire historians and experts to make sure that a lot of this stuff is correct and factually accurate.

One example of this is the fact that your character has no idea how to read. You can find someone to teach you how to read, but it won't really help you as much as you think it will considering not many other people knew how to read. Another example, you can't just go to a town and repair your armor. The town has to have an armorer in order for you to repair your armor.

Most of the issues that plague this game are technical. These include things like ridiculously long load times when talking to NPCs, massive texture pop in a trademark of the unreal engine , bad framerate in some areas, not using all the system resources available, save issues, and more. These people cannot afford to even give a shit about any of this. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't even care, I mean it's not like you're going to get penalized for not listening.

These people don't even play video games in the first place, they just bitch and complain for the sake of bitching and complaining.

I think it comes down to two things. You’ve got the white guilt “allies” that think black people need representation even if it means spitting in the face of historical accuracy and confusing people. Then you have the “we wuz kangz” crowd that really are just desperate for a culture that’s isn’t collard greens and grits or depictions that their ancestors were spear chuckers. They’re desperate for blacks to be seen as equals to cultures that developed algebra, geography, astrology, democracy etc when they’re really not.

There is no goddamn proof black people were prevalent in European society except for the moors. Greeks were trading with Northern Africa by way of the Mediterranean Sea.

I just want to add that medieval POC is a garbage tumblr blog that makes sweeping generalizations. None of their “research” is based on reality and they routinely shout down anyone that’s spent their life studying their own country and people. They get into arguments with historians who have PhDs in this shit because they think they know better. The person who runs it is a nutter.
