Kingdom Hearts III - Or How to make the most convoluted video game plot ever

On another note, in the final battle...
how about that Donald fucking Zettaflare. Our hot-headed duck just used the most powerful fire spell we've seen from Square thus far, stronger than even Bahamut's Teraflare to singlehandedly delete Terranort from existence. What the fuck.
Donald was tired of people bitching about not healing them so he took care of the problem at the source.

The whole fucking ending is already leaked. Same overdramatic pseudo-philosophical dialogue trying to hard, same stupid convoluted plot and some corny and over the top voice acting but the OST is god-like as always. Enjoy

TDLW: Sora defeats Xenahort and talk no justus him. Original Ansem and Original Xenahort (I don't fucking know at this point) were good friends or something and make up before dying or someshit about light. Roxas (or I think it was Ventus? I can't follow this shit!!) , Aqua and Terra, Axel and I think even fucking Xion live. And Sora went to find Kairi to make more games. That's it. He dissapeared Thanos-style at the end but it's probably just a red-hearing: nobody fucking dies on these games.

I think some people are already dissapointed by it. It was worth 13 years for such a resolution for such a stupid and convoluted story, Nomura? I hope you learned your lesson for future and learn how to make a basic narrative structure. Aim for the stars, boy

Square must be determined to squeeze as much cash out of this property as they possibly can since I could have sworn that the 'Xeanort Saga' had been wrapped up pretty effectively by the end of Kingdom Hearts II.

At least now that they've gotten this out of the way, they can focus on the Final Fantasy VII remake.

I heard Ducktales (1987-1990) is in this. I'd love to see Goof Troop represented too. Would there be a different Pete incarnation? Pete wasn't really a bad guy in the Goof Troop canon.
It technically hasn't, unless I'm missing/missed out on a reference in KH3 then the most Ducktales ever got in terms of KH appearances (outside of Huey, Dewey, and Louie's appearances starting in KH1 and Scrooge's starting in KH2) was some limited-edition Ducktales (2017)-themed Medals in KHUX.
Disney is REALLY anal about their crossovers and TV shows have generally been a no-go in terms of being featured in KH outside of Gargoyles being considered for the first game. You only get exceptions like Huey/Dewey/Louie and Scrooge due to their first animated appearances being in Disney shorts (Donald's Nephews for Huey/Dewey/Louie and Scrooge McDuck and Money for Scrooge) or through a heavily-theorized DTV "loophole" that allows for TV show characters to appear in the game so long as said appearance is based off of their role a direct-to-video film (Sparky's/Experiment 221's appearance in Birth By Sleep and the Beagle Boys' appearance in Dream Drop Distance).

That explains why there is Chip & Dale but none of the other Rescue Rangers, whom would make sense working alongside Chip & Dale's whole role in KH.

But also, Duckburg in itself isn't a TV-exclusive area either.

Unfortunately the Disneytoon-made theatrical movies (A Goofy Movie and DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp) are considered part of their respective TV series when these decisions are made and Disney's comics, as usual, remain neglected.

Best ship I've seen so far is a hand holding a gun dubbed DELETE THIS. Oh, and a shiba laying in a dog house.

All in all, as someone who tried to get into Final Fantasy and having played KH1/KH2 a lot as a kid, prior to said investment; I just see no appeal in KH3. The gameplay is braindead simple, it's supposedly easy as hell, and all the complex lore the spin-offs put into existence has barely any place in KH3 itself.

They could've cut out all non-KH1/2/3 ties from the KH games and it would've been the niche gimmicky "Hey look, Disney"-game it was meant to be.

Hell, even FF has simpler lore.

In a way you are correct, Kingdom Hearts II was like Return of the Jedi: the story could have ended here, every major plot point had been resolved, the protags are all reunited, the bad guys are all defeated, roll credits. But then Nomura added the bane of any franchise: a fucking prequel, which added a shitload of plot points that wouldn't be resolved for nearly a decade (hence why KH3 was so anticipated). And then Dream Drop Distance came out, added fucking time-travel to the plot and negated every single achievement the protags had ever accomplished by reviving all the main villains with little to no explanation because "it was all part of my Master Plan my dudes".

3D is what turned the plot into a fucking joke. They could have had their final battle and resolved the plot points left hanging after the prequel without that fucking time-travel shittery.

And with those rumors that the next Star Wars will feature time-travel, and both franchises being owned by Disney, clearly they just never learn.

I was clean of both stupid anime bullshit and cocaine for like 5 years and this last week got me back on both.

The game is the worst thing I've ever played, and that's from someone who's 100% all the games. All of them. Including BOTH of the shitty mobile phone games, BOTH of the card games, and the homosexual visual novel that is 358/2. I knew what to expect with the series if anyone did but Jesus Christ it was so full of empty spectacle and so bare-bones of actual content. They had 13 years to get it right, what the hell happened? Maybe I just outgrew the brand of empty pseudo-philosophical bullshit with cute anime boys, because that's all it had to offer and I was so bored I needed to plug stimulants to even finish it.
The best part was by far Toy Box, not just because of Woody dunking on Babynort, but because you could smell the seething bitterness Nomura doubtlessly felt after getting yanked from FF15. That gets me higher than the crack cocaine I needed to even digest this bullshit.

eh it wasn't so bad. considering all kh games are incredibly retarded in terms of convoluted plot and corny shit, I don't know why people came into this thinking they would get some sort of masterpiece. I know full well my love for kh is pure nostalgia based, therefore I don't pretend they're that great.

my only issue was that kh3 too god damned easy. I played on proud and it was r.etard easy.
Did they do this to make the game accessable to children? Wouldn't doubt it. HEY KIDS PLAY THIS GAME AND COME TO FROZEN WORLD! or whatever.

What I've never been able to understand is why Kingdom Hearts III took as long as it did to see the light of day. After the runaway success of games the 1st and the 2nd, you'd think that the third in the trilogy would be Square's top priority. But apparently not since their next move with the series was to whip out a prequel starring the members of the evil conspiracy Sora, Donald and Goofy spent so much time fighting against. And then a game which had nothing to do with either the heroes or the villains but instead introduced a new cast of characters. They were keyblade wielders, right? I must admit that I'm unsure because the aforementioned Organisation 13 prequel just about slew any interest I had in the future of Kingdom Hearts.

Getting back on track, it's just so weird to think that the first two games came out on the Playstation II and that the actual third game has recently come out on the Playstation IV. Just let that sink in. The Kingdom Hearts franchise skipped over the Playstation III completely unless you want to count the HD re-release of the previous games and the stuff included in them. That's how many spin-off games Square went through before KHIII finally came along. Madness. Complete and utter madness.

I just realized that I've never played that in-between game which tells of Sora's first encounter with Organisation 13. Is it any good? From what I understand, the combat's somewhat of a departure from what I might be used to because for some weird reason it's a card game. I wonder...was that game made when Yu-Gi-Oh was at the peak of its popularity...

The thing about Kingdom Hearts is that the original game's plot was little more than an excuse to allow the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy to collide. Ansem's research into the darkness that lies within the human heart is what led to main conflict. But it was treated as a background element for the most part with Ansem himself only showing up to hijack Maleficent's role as the bad guy when the game was all but over. Then the sequel came along and the Organisation stepped into the spotlight...

It's a card game with action elements, in the sense that each card you play results in Sora performing an attack. The card element comes from the fact that it was originally released on GBA as a shameless cash grab, and the GBA couldn't handle the combat system of the original KH. So they came up with the card system, which results in only one action taking place on the screen at any given time.

Originally it was supposed to be nothing more than a port of the original KH to the GBA, but midway through development Nomura added new story elements that turned it into a sequel. This also explains why the game is 80% filler, with the only relevant bits of story being those that take place between the castle levels (at least on Sora's story).

On the plus side it's one of most broken games in the franchise once you get the hang of it, as after a few level-ups you gain abilities that let you clean house with absurd ease, and the card battle system means the enemies just awkwardly stand around as you steamroll them.

Was it ever explained why Mickey and Rikku took to wearing hooded cloaks that made them look like members of Organisation 13?

Or why the Organisation's introduction was hastily thrown into what was pretty much a half-assed cash-grab of a game? Seriously, most of them are taken out of the picture long before the actual sequel came out. I wonder how many players of the first game wondered who the hell these guys were supposed to be and how Donald, Sora and Goofy went from chasing Pluto down the yellow brick road to being stuck in cryogenic stasis pods. In the basement of an abandoned mansion in a town that you just spent the last three hours trapped in a VR simulation of...

On the topic of FF characters and other SE properties being non-existent in KH3 (outside of cameos) I vaguely remember reading a gaming magazine's article on KH2 around the time of its release and there was a blurb in the article where they asked Nomura about the future of FF characters in the series. He said, at the time, that FF characters are considered "guests" in the series and that actual FF worlds (original worlds inspired by FF properties like Radiant Garden don't count) are out of the question since the series is a Disney IP.

On the topic of KH3, I hope whoever decided to make an Orichalcum+ an award for collecting ALL 10 treasures in that AWFUL Frozen Slider mini-game was fired. Even the ones tied to the RNGfest that are Prize Postcards, the Flantastic Seven's collective high score thing, and taking photos of 80 of the game's Lucky Emblems/Hidden Mickeys aren't as tedious as this one.
As for what the secret ending details I'm going to have to agree with what /v/'s current theory is and it kind of ties into the Toy Box bit @Crocophile mentioned: Nomura might just be tying certain SE IPs he cares about to KH so that the suits responsible for booting him off of FFXV can't fuck those games up more than they already have been.

Part of the reason why development on KH3 took as long as it did and why we got a shitload of spin-offs between KH2 and KH3 was due to Nomura being assigned to Final Fantasy Versus XIII (what would eventually become Final Fantasy XV) until he was dropped from the game back in 2014 and another is due to the development team switching to Unreal Engine 4 in 2014 after they found SE's in-house Luminous Engine too difficult to work with.

The stinger from the end of Kingdom Hearts was waaaay off the mark from what Kingdom Hearts II turned out to be. Compare the brief glimpse we get of Kairi to the art style that the KH series is known for and you wonder why it was done that way...
