I was having trouble with my '87 Kawasaki EX500. I went to a motorcycle forum to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem. Then it dawned on me, why discuss motorcycles on a forum with experienced riders and mechanics, when I could have that discussion with someone whose avatar is a gif of Lowtax getting punched in the head. After searching, there was no motorcycle thread on KF so might as well make one.

This thread is for any discussion of motorcycle related topics.
Discuss what you ride.
What you want to ride.
Racing on and off road.
Any problems with your bike.
What are some good rides you like to take, without powerleveling too much.
Talk shit on other users' choice of bike.
Show off horrible life altering injuries.

Experienced riders, new fags, and whoever is welcome. Have fun.

I'm a newfag to riding and looking to replace my 20YO bike. Thinking about getting a new road king. but I'm open to suggestions.
I started riding on a Suzuki DRZ400. It's a light maneuverable bike but is way underpowered on the highway. I've never really been into big cruisers. I prefer dual sports and adventure bikes because there is plenty of trail riding where I live and it's fun as hell. Next purchase is either a Honda Africa or Suzuki V-Strom (probably the V-Strom since I'm broke).

I got my Motorcycle endorsement on my license a while ago, but it's difficult to find a bike that's affordable in my area and I can't ride it all year where I live sadly due to long winters. I have a family member who owns a custom made Harley Davidson and I've taken it for a spin a couple of times. Honest opinion though, I like the cruiser style personally but HDs are mainly World War II technology that seems to get by on name and brand recognition. All the MCs use them because it's part of the image, foreign bikes have their up side but I understand the preference for something that's nominally made in America.

Motorcycles are swell, but I have some notes.

Add two more wheels for stability
Enclose a dry, wind-protected area for the driver

I used to have a 1995 Buell S2 Thunderbolt that was a lot of fun to ride. There were less than 2500 of them made that year, which was the first year of Harley owning Buell and they became "production" motorcycles. However, they were still being essentially built by hand because they hadn't invested in all the expensive production equipment to make them in large numbers. Mine was this arctic pearl white that had blue metal flake mixed in, so it had this gorgeous blue shine to it in sunlight, but looked pearl white in the shade. I've been wanting to start riding again, but have a few things I want to get before I invest in a new bike. I really like the Ducati XDiavel and the new Triumph Rocket III R.

Does putting a playing card in a bike wheel count?
It kind of sounds like a motorcycle so I think it should count.

Triumph makes a really cool scrambler I've been looking at and an 850 adventure bike. I believe it's the Tiger.

I'm kind of sold on Japanese vehicles, in general, just because I do a lot of my own maintenance. I'm not sure about Triumph but I know BMW requires special tools. I also live in bumfuck nowhere so finding a good motorcycle mechanic is tough let alone someone who works on Euro bikes.

I finally got the EX500 road worthy (insurance, plate, registration, inspection). It rides like a dream and I been using it as a commuter bike since my DRZ is about as comfortable as a bed of nails. The majority of the problems were fuel issues. I spent about $500 on it in terms of parts and labor which is about half the low blue book price. That's not bad considering the only thing I paid to get it was the title transfer fees. For the sake of useless information, the EX500 is the predecessor of the Ninja and it definitely rips. I hit triple digit speed and still had a lot of throttle left before I got scared and backed off. It's a fun little bike and I now see why crotch rockets are so popular.
