In the interest of promoting creativity and writing skills, I am pleased to announce my first-annual Kiwi Farms Writing Contest!

Rules:
  • This contest is for writers to compose a short story in the period of one month. The word count may be up to 7,500. I need to be able to verify this; if you submit a copy-protected PDF for instance, I cannot verify the word count, so don't do that.
  • Story may be of any genre and feature almost any theme. Stories may not feature the sexuality of any underage characters. Stories may feature other forum members or lolcows, but I reserve the right to disqualify any story written in bad faith.
  • Entries must be accompanied by a one-sentence plot preview (identical to a brief summary you'd read in the TV Guide). This helps everyone to be on the same footing by the enrollment date.
  • Story must meet above parameters to be featured in judgement poll.
  • Entries now closed! Stories must be complete by 11:59PM EDT on 3/9/15. You may submit at any time before.
  • Holy fuck I did not anticipate this many stories! So what I'm going to do is add another dimension to the contest. Users will be able to vote multiple stories in the contest: if you liked the story, you can vote for it! Since we have the plot summaries, this makes getting people to read your story a part of the contest itself, so choose your plot ideas wisely!
Prizes are as follows:
  • Forum trophy worth five points for the first-place story, as selected by a community poll.
  • Forum trophy worth three points for the runner-up, as selected by a community poll.

Just as an idea, it might be fun to have it done by anonymous entries instead that would all be submitted to you by PM.

Obviously you would still know who wrote what since you'd be collecting them all, but that would only be one vote towards the poll.
Idea is just that it would focus the judging solely on the content of the story.

Plus then we get a nice surprise at the end finding out who wrote what after all the votes get tallied.

I'm interested. Should we give our story ideas to you in the thread or over pm?

Yeah sure. Only question- can I do more than 1k-2k words? Like, can I go for like 10k? Not for brownie points or anything, but just to challenge myself.

Anyway, mine will be called, Tartan, and it will be a short horror piece set in the American Midwest, about a rest stop, and... UFOs... or Shadow People. or something.

Are we able to change our stories at any point or must we stick with our original summary?

I will be writing The Shepherd boy's clusterfuck adventure: an intelligent and adventurous young man tries to save his precious mascot and restore order to his house. His main problem: he's hanging off a balcony in the middle of the night. And he does not remember why.

Does it need to be a complete story or are we allowed to do a "to be continued" sort of thing?
