First guy in my area dead from COVID. Honestly in the scope of things, it's looking good considering how long it's been. He was elderly with pre-existing conditions, so yes, he died from COVID, however he more than likely wouldn't have survived a flu either. I haven't gotten any calls from my aunts or uncles so I'm glad (cause if I did, that would mean one of my grandparents kicked it before I could see them one last time and I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Last time was easter of last year. Couldn't go over new years because I caught a bug, sure as shit not going now with the stakes this high.)

Little one’s test results now officially lost. FFS. So I have no idea whether we had a mild dose of wu fl, or just some rando bug. Everyone’s mostly better now, but I would like to know whether we had it to know whether we’ve (presumably) got some immunity now.

I got a bad sinus infection while suffering from a cold when things started warming up after a just as warm winter. If it was corona, it was mild yet still unpleasant as hell.

Still have the coof after getting better, but then again I also partake in the wackyest of wacky tobacky.

I guess this might be a useful archive one day so here’s my experience: suspected, not confirmed, as no testing where I am.

Vague demographics: middle aged female, non smoker, doesn’t drink, asthma, normal BMImoderate fitness. low air pollution at home, low to low/moderate at work.

I’ve had three serious bouts of flu in my life and this felt nothing like it. The symptoms may be the same on paper (fever etc) but this did not feel like flu to me.
It started with an odd sense of something being not quite right, then a high fever that broke after a few hours, during which time my whole body, especially the limbs, tingled. Then a day of being OK, then a constant low grade fluctuating fever (37.8-38.5) which is only just going now after two weeks. My eyes were sore, first the whole eyeball with a burning sensation then the tissues around them felt irritated and the eyelids became slightly red. Watery eyes persisted about six days. Like hay fever (which I don’t have) During this time I felt dizzy, even before the shortness of breath started, there was clearly some inner ear involvement, i felt like I was at an angle. So vertigo rather than loss of consciousness. Nasty palpitations and tachycardia, both worse on exertion .
The dry cough came on gradually a few days after the first symptoms started. It got worse, until I couldn’t finish a sentence. Completely dry cough. Walking across the room was about as much as I could do. Dizziness persisted but seemed more to do with lack of oxygen than ear involvement. Unable to check oxygen sats at home. One or two hours of intense vomiting halfway through, and I did have mild diarrhoea for a few hours before other symptoms started.
The dry cough remains, shortness of breath remains. Pain in chest and back. Lungs sound largely normal, just a tiny crackle but nothing much. I can now finish a sentence, but hollering at the kids is out.
Husband less severely affected but also had the same distinctive dry cough .
I won’t PL the ages of the kids, but the youngest has shown symptoms, and developed a nasty cough as well that required a hospital visit. Lungs also sound clear on all the kids, despite the youngest obviously struggling a bit,
Crushing fatigue, I am shattered. Affected child also v tired
I’ve taken doxycycline from day 5 and inhaled corticosteroids (the latter after I felt I’d beaten the thing off, do not quit taking any medication you already take, I am not your doctor, listen to your own.)I have no idea if either helped, I suspect I was just lucky and managed to get on top of it. Also self dosed with elderberry,, 2x 1000mg vit c a day and high dose vitamin D. no idea if any of that helped either. Child has inhaled corticosteroids and amoxicillin, perked up remarkably with the antibiotics so suspect secondary bacterial had crept in.
This is definitely not a cold. No congestion in the head, no nasal drip, no sneezing. No runny nose, snot etc. It doesn’t feel like flu. I’ve felt much ‘sicker’ with flu and colds. The only really alarming thing has been the shortness of breath, which is horrible and persistent.
I’ll be grabbing an antibody test as soon as I’m able.

Shit, that sounds terrible. You and kiddo on the mend? Is kiddo asthmatic too? I feel like we don't know a lot about how asthmatics in particular are affected.

I guess you are working from home: are you able to get enough rest? I know rest won't fix anything, but I suspect the post viral fatigue from this is going to lay a lot of people low. Plus make you generally more worn down and vulnerable to other shit. Hoping you can at least get plenty sleep and not move around too much :( Is husband well enough to take care of you some? Are you okay to get groceries in and stuff?

The fact you mention the eye thing is interesting. Off your list, I had everything bar a serious cough, but I was only down and out for a couple of days. There is some folk rumour going around in these parts that smaller kids have a very high false negative testing rate but fuck knows about that. I would certainly say that the constellation of symptoms I had didn't 'feel like a cold' or like the strains of flu that have flattened me in the past. I didn't have the joint pains that I get when I run a fever any other time.

I had flu in the first trimester of my last pregnancy followed by persistent cardiac issues and eventually some level of cardiac failure, so I'm fairly paranoid about cardiac symptoms. I definitely felt that 'overworked' feeling and was tachycardic but no pain. Haven't had any of that bullshit even on heavy exertion since sprongling was born, so I was a bit nervous to have that reappear.

Also like you I was snotless but the kids had a runny nose.

Not enough - kids home because the schools are shut and other half is working from home. It’s been a bit shit. No, my kid has never shown any signs of asthma before - perfectly healthy.
The actual cough wasn’t that bad. Dry and painful but I’ve seen and had much worse. It was the feeling that breathing was getting increasingly harder that was awful (still is a bit.) I’m sure I have some degree of pneumonia, let’s hope it clears up.

Quoted wrong post sorry - Your previous post is an excellent description for posterity. It sounds very similar to what I’ve had right down to the weird tingling thing (what WAS that?!) and the intense vomiting episode. My cough has now changed from dry, hacking and constant to wet and slightly productive. My breathing has been completely screwed up - I can feel my body working extra hard to draw breath. I wonder if the crushing fatigue is low oxygen saturation? I am praying that I’m going to start recovering now. I’ve also been doing breathing treatments which did help a lot in the moment when I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I agree that while it sounds like flu on paper it doesn’t actually feel much like the flu at all. The flu, for me, has way more body aches while this makes me feel I cannot breathe. Super awesome

I dont think you can build an immunity. From what I've read and herd, there is a high chance you can catch it again.
Something about how it tricks your immunity and hiding in your cells

There is still an uncertainty about the serology and practical immunity for the virus. edit: I’m not a medical doctor but that is what the literature seems to indicate, unless something has changed drastically in the last few days.

The common Coronaviruses that give us colds only cause temporary immunity - a year or two. SARS, from what little data we have, seems to cause a much more lasting immunity with higher titres of antibody persisting for several years. There was also a correlation between severity of disease and immunity as far as I remember

Seeing what level of immunity this leaves will be interesting. I think it should be at least temporary. Enough time to get a vaccine going anyway.

Aw shit guys. I thought once you had this particular strain, you were good for a while, or until another strain was on the go. Damn. I was just hoping to get through until the (predicted? feared? expected? idk) winter resurgence of the epidemic

Developed a light, wet cough. Not worried it’s corona. Very paranoid other people will think it is though. Won’t even clear my throat if other people are around. I’m mostly upset I got it even after wearing gloves to the store, face masks at work, washing my hands every time I get home, and frequent hand sanitizer use.

If you couldnt build an immunity, then you would never get respite from symptoms and would eventually die of the disease. There would be no recovery. See tuberculosis.

Re-infection has never been confirmed outside of china, and repeat it with me now: DO. NOT. TRUST. CHINA. There was a single japanese case, but given that the test can A) pick up remnants of the virus even if said virus is not active and B) the false positive rates these tests are capable of (3-5%, very high for a clinical test) its likely she wasn't fully recovered or had remnants in her respiratory system.
