My sister was really sick sometime late January, early February, but that was before anybody know wuflu was a thing. I mean so sick she could barely breathe. Nothing has happened since, so it's probably just a coincidence. An 18 year old college kid has been out of work with a 105 fever, but he doesn't work a lot, and I think I heard he was tested and came up negative. A 105 fever is actually quite dangerous for an adult, and there are not many things that cause a fever that high. And I would want precisely none of them. Mostly nasty infections involving either the blood or nervous system.

I'm still not convinced that the nasty coughing cold that was spreading around in december/january wasnt corona, the symptoms are too similar and doctors had no idea what it was. The fact that it was causing a higher rate of pneumonia then normal is a huge red flag. Short of getting widespread antibody testing, we'll never know.

So weeks/two months after weeb crap having arrived from China, I'm sure I just got over a case of the flu or something, I dunno. I was all snotty and sneezy for like two weeks that would vary on amount, cough felt more like it came from the throat/clearing of phlegm than from the chest, for about a week-and-a-half I would be sitting in front of the computer or anywhere and I'd just feel tired/dizzy and would rather lay down and sleep. If I was lying down, even still now, I felt like I wasn't going to be able to sleep on my back, which was odd. For a couple of weeks I couldn't stand being in a shower, especially if the steam was getting too much, so I got back in the habit of taking a bath, and it was better to just soak in the water. I also went out for a weekly walk twice during that time, but I had to cut them short (I like to walk for two hours) because I just felt tired, wasn't really paying attention to how I was breathing. My singing (which was what I was most concerned for in terms of my health) also was getting kinda affected because I wasn't taking in the right/usual amount of air, but I wasn't devolving into coughing fits. Oh, and for a week, my appetite was cut in half in that I'd eat only half of the food so I lost ten pounds and haven't gained it back (not losing weight anymore, but I'm not gaining as much as I'd like). I still make sure to eat and drink fluids throughout the day, though, which might've actually accounted for the random bursts of diarrhea that'd pass within hours, but I've never had a fever. That I can tell, anyway, I can't find the thermometer anywhere. Body aches sometimes, maybe I had a night sweat/discomfort once, but I don't recall fevers?

That tickle in the throat still happens so I have to clear it with a cough, and I still have some mucus that'll wax and wane, but I haven't been feeling as tired as before, and I'm able to return to my regular walk schedule and my singing's back to normal. My family's going through a bout as well, but no one's complaining or looking worse for the wear. I still am going to be worried 'cause one of my brothers has asthma even though he hasn't had an attack since he was a kid. Overall, outside of the emptying stores being a bit of a hindrance and Dad not being able to go into work for two weeks now (think it's been extended), we're in good spirits.

I did get word last night a cousin of mine is self-isolating because a co-worker of hers tested positive, and she has asthma as well. I haven't seen her in years, but it's still not fun to hear of someone you know catching it/being most at risk.

In late November, I was on a cruise. I caught a really nasty chest cold (as a lot of people did on the ship-- something was going around). I ended up running a 5k during that trip as well (and it felt like hell). I had a mile grade fever, a really painful lingering sore throat, and dryness in the chest. It only lasted a few days for me though, luckily. By the time I got home from that vacation, I pretty much felt completely better, save for a slightly lingering cough.

Then, in my previous post, I mentioned that my husband developed a nasty chest cold back in January, and had a lingering cough that lasted for weeks. Granted, it's actually normal for a cough to linger for a while even after you are done with your cold or flu, but his cough was pretty bad.

If what's happening now is truly a "stage 2" of the Coronavirus, then ... I think this thing has been around for far longer than November 2019.

Lots of people in medicine have been saying for the past few months that this has been one of the nastier cold and flu seasons in a while, too. It really makes you think ...

In other news, I've found out that my Parent In-Laws both have a "bug" of some kind. One has the sniffles, and the other has stomach issues. Neither have had fevers this week, though. Not to mention they are both prone to coming down with viruses all of the time. I'm internally freaking out about it though.

During the week of New Years Eve last year I felt body aches and a chest cold. Then I felt sensitive to light very awfully to the point of shivering so I basically went to bed earlier than usual. That symptom went away. Then I just coughed up shit that tasted like burnt paper, brown with red striations. Nothing else.

Whatever that thing in January was, I also had it and I had the one in late October/early November. So did the whole family. The first happened before the flu shots were released here and was the one with lots of people (especially quite young women) having arrhythmias and the second was the one with a lot of pneumonia. Both waves of whatever it was went through the local schools and kids were very much affected, more than adults as I recall. Lots of pneumonia and ear infections, which isn’t uncommon after a bad one hits.
Anyway, none of them provided significant immunity to the next and they both hit children.
The retrospective data for all this will be fascinating. If anything good comes from it then hopefully we will have better funded disease surveillance

Day two after testing positive -- still drinking; it's probably helping.
Some shortness of breath and swelling, otherwise asymptomatic and no coofing fits yet.

I don't feel nearly as bad as I did when I had the Swine Flu.
Passing time by learning obscure math and re-learning how to use a slide rule.

DSP levels of snot, no cough, about 3 weeks ago I get the exact same symptoms, except with a cough which was easily suppressible and very mild chest pain. Zinc seemed to kick its ass both times. All I have left are fleeting chest pains.

If this isn't corona, my town had its first two cases confirmed yesterday and I'm assuming I don't want a visit from COVID while my body works through whatever this is. A hearty "fuck you" to the boomers who apparently traveled to a "high risk" city "recently" and brought this shit back here.

Thank you. I’m still very short of breath and I suspect there’s a degree of pneumonia, but it’s mild and I’m OK. I think it’ll take a while to recover from, Ive had pneumonia when I was younger and it’s months not weeks to get back in shape. Couple of days last week I was thinking oh shit but I think I’m on the mend. Without sounding like a total sap, I did appreciate all your thoughts. For an Internet hate site, you’re all rather nice.

Gonna PL a relevant medical thing- I'm immunocompromised due to being on a TNF-α inhibitor. In the past when I've caught respiratory illnesses I don't tend to get them more severely than other people but it does me take longer to get over them.

I will be interested to see how the cohort on drugs like humira do with this. Yes they are immunosuppressive BUT some of the mab type biologicals are being used as therapy. Around New Years, many of the workers where I work were becoming sick. We can seat ~350 people on our floor, who sit in rows maybe 2-3' apart. Obviously even under normal circumstances if someone becomes sick, almost everyone will catch it, and they are being graded on their adherence to schedule so choosing to stay home is a big deal.

Starting around the end of December, I was hearing so many people on the floor coughing and struggling to breath that even without knowing anything about the Coronavirus yet, I thought to myself that i've not seen things this bad in many years. I literally remember thinking to myself "The last time it was like this was Swine Flu".

In the 2nd and 3rd week of January, representatives from CA were flying out to our site to stay for about a week. Every single one of them that they flew in was sick as well. At this point is when I started to get actually scared. It didn't help that this is when I started seeing the videos of what was happening in China on ZH.

At that point I put two-and-two together and assumed that what I was seeing on our floor was probably this new disease, and the fact that the CA reps were sick too was further confirmation. This was before any advice or recommendation had come from the government (or even really media) in terms of the virus being on our US shores and based solely on my layman's observations.

This is why I have been so confused over the past month or so, in terms of the response to the virus. Because I am hearing that "the virus is coming" or "we need to prepare for this virus" but from my vantage point it seems like this has been ongoing in the US for awhile...? But I am not an expert. So what do i know?

Right now I do have a bad cough. Later in the night I have trouble sleeping because I can hear my lungs making a wheezing noise. My breath is definitely shorter, in the sense that I am noticing something is wrong. If I really focus, I can force myself to take a deep breath, so the functionality is still there, but my body does not want to automatically take those full breaths anymore. I am not coughing up blood, and my spit/phlem looks the same it always does? It does taste weird though, like there is blood in there, that irony taste.. but theres none. I'm the type who tries to ride things out and avoid taking medicine/etc, and even for a person like me, i can't ignore that something is wrong. I'm not sure what did it though? Because as i said in my post, i caught an illness for about a week, "got better", and now the lingering cough has appeared.

Anyhow, I've been feeling a mild pressure in my chest, a tickled throat, and weaker than average lungs for about two weeks. What convinces me that I'm not suffering from kung flu is that I don't have a fever, and I'm sneezing, not coughing, at least once a day. Guessing it's a combination of some allergies and another nameless viral infection.

I mean shit like that goes around sometimes. 2-3 years ago I had this awful cold where they tested me for the flu and strep. After that it was like “welp, get these otc meds and plenty of rest” sucked but ya know. I have had pneumonia before and it fucking sucks. I remember my temperature hitting 105, my vision went fucking sideways, I was delirious, and could barely move. Going to the hospital for that was shit. I coughed up blood for 3 weeks and then had to use sick clouds that contained medicine for like 6 months?

What Zinc supplements are you taking? Your symptoms sound like mine but I also have occasional shortness of breath which got really bad back at the start of February and since seems to have calmed down.
