Virtual Novels in general are garbage. Just read an actual fucking book.
That's a pretty narrow viewpoint on the genre. Not all VN'S are shovelware garbage like the Sakura series or Sono Hanabira. Plenty of Visual Novels just as good as novels.

Bleh. Just went through the trailer. Some anime-wannabe intro with upbeat music... The characters look lifeless and over-sexualized in appearance. The textbox and font looks like it's made in rpg maker. Read some reviews: it is indeed made in rpg maker. LOL

There's a lot of really good ones, actually.
The problem is that the genre's been overrun by tripe in the last few years due to the low barriers of entry.
These are autists we're talking about here. Reading anything that's not a comic or Goosebumps is too much for them.

Somebody went and checked out the Metacritic reviews. It looks like all of the 10/10 reviews were made around the same time and all of the reviewers are new accounts. If you look at their profiles you can see that they don't have any other game or media reviewed other than Major/Minor. This seems awfully suspicious.
While his second game (Winds of Change) has some resemblance of a fucking plot and some decent production values he seems rather convinced that adding more text to the game means more content...I mean it does but like, quality and shit is better than just adding more goddamn text or whatever. He's also quite devoted to making the entire game voiced which is cool and all...but word on the street is he's going for more pricier VAs, probably for more
