He knew how bad COVID was going to be and played it down anyway as a political move, which puts more American blood on his hands due to willful incompetence than most recent past Presidents. Oh, and as for rights, he was pushing for legislation to undue the safe harbor provision, which protects site like this one against legal action based on what their users post.

But I suspect that what I'm thinking is not what that person is thinking.

Most atheists, or probably even Christian's don't know how prevalent it is, but a wide sect of Christianity believes that the heaven promised is a heaven on earth. As in, you don't get ferried into some cloud world and play the harps for eternity, but you leave this cold gay earth a couple acres greener when you kick the bucket, and that good is whats eternal.

Kinda like the 70 virgins being a bunch of grapes in Islam. Kinda Changes the message.

I used to talk to him back in the day. Nothing substantial, but I can say for certain from what I see on his social media compared to how he was years ago that he's just pulling clout bullshit like anyone else who's got a name out there.

Christianity is almost universally associated with the right-wing and conservativism in general here in the United States, particularly Protestant Christianity. It's largely due to a mix of historical reasons and media coverage of the few left-wing Christian cults being either non-existent or focusing only on a few specific elements.

Catholicism is seen as more centrist in the eyes of most Americans because even at its most traditionalist, it's nowhere near as morally austere and socially conservative than the Protestant traditions of guys like Pat Buchanan or the memetically infamous Jack Chick and Kent Hovind.

Historically, it was due to the social conservatism of the Puritans and the Evangelical groups that emerged in the "Great Awakening" of the 19th Century but in more recent years, it's because of the Religious Right that was a major force in American conservatism throughout the 1980's and 1990's and how they were more or less intertwined with the neoconservative movement right up until they crashed and burned in the late 2000's.

Most people know about Jonestown but the average American doesn't know The People's Temple was a weird hybrid of Christianity and socialism and instead thought it was some weird cult of personality around Jim Jones specifically. At most, they might try to attribute it to being a weird hippie off-shoot similar to Manson or a turbo-fundie cult similar to the Waco compound.

Most of the pop culture and media rhetoric around The People's Temple in the modern era focuses on Jim Jones's cult of personality and the Jonestown mass suicide near exclusively.

It does not help that a lot of leftists will try to infiltrate Christian groups or identify as Christian to try and counter any right-wing rhetoric. The Episcopal Church is one of the more prolific examples of this and it's the source of the "Maybe this will work on you" meme
