I remember one Something Awful LP where the dude was a total faggot. He was doing an LP of some bull shit game that was meant for a contest no one won. Game Master, I think it was called. He somehow got LowT to co-commentate who did nothing but call the LPer a faggot the whole time. That was the last time I thought LowT to be decent. The LPer thought he was top shit, but I got the impression that everyone was laughing at him not with him.

Anyway, what I’m getting at that early SA LPs weren’t always good. Raocow and Psychedelic Eyeball were pretty shit over a decade ago. It may have to do with those guys being ESL. The quality of SA LPs weren’t very good at first, though this could be hindsight, but they were leagues above the 10 minute cap YouTube had at the time and most amateurs didn’t know how to edit.

Raocow is fascinating. He has a nice little community that comment about the game and his khamentary, gets roughly 1k views on average, and he makes over $1.5k a month on the Paymetons. People should aspire to be in that position instead of gunning for the PDP throne. Why does he keep uploading videos in 10 minute chunks like it is 2008?

I think there is a couple of other people in the same boat but I can't recall their names, one guy has something about a beard in his name, another uses an avatar of a Megaman character (might of been Zero?).

While I admire their dedication to sticking to the old ways I can't help but think that it would be more enjoyable for their fans to be able to talk in real time on a stream. Does open you up to accidentally revealing too much about yourself if you get involved in the chat though.

Raocow is an odd guy. By sticking to his formula for years, he managed to stay out of any real drama(or is at least amazing at covering his own ass) and has put out a consistent if somewhat stale product for years. But the guy has completely stagnated his channel growth. He's been doing this for 12 years and only has 30.7k subs. Someone who's been doing this for so long and was part of the SA lp crew should have at least double by now. Obviously he doesn't care about it or he would have done some sort trend chasing by now, but it is kinda nuts to me.

Not really surprising that they largely center on casual kid like games. The only SA LP'er I've watched that admitted they were a Goon was Research Indicates. He did a Jurassic Park: Trespasser LP that I really enjoyed. Very knowledgeable about the games history and its many, many flaws, and was fairly good at the game. It also helps he has a nice deep speaking voice that makes him a treat to listen to.

The AC story was a creepy pasta you don't see often, a story inside the game world, not a story about some guy that buys a weird cart of POKEMON PREPARE TO DIE edition at a used book store. Tom Nook didn't show up to kill people with a Wavebird controller.

I know Research Indicates works on history docos for a living in some role but he must of been trolling when he selected that awful bargin bin civil war game as his comeback LP. Learnt something about history at least. Big ups to all the southern content creators sticking to their guns and their roots.
