To make things as brief as possible:
The Medium is about this lady, Marianne, who is able to travel to the spirit world, enter the psyche/memories of others, yadda yadda. There's also this monster/demon called The Maw who you keep encountering, basically The Medium's answer to Pyramid Head.
Marianne ends up reuniting with her long-lost father and older sister, both of whom share her same abilities. You play as the father for a while and are shown some events from the past (the game has jumping timelines.)
The father was befriended by a man, Richard, only to discover Richard was only using him for access to his daughter. Nothing is explicitly shown, but it's very strongly implied Richard raped her.
Out of revenge/a search for an explanation, the father enters Richard's mind and views his memories. There he discovers Richard lived through WWII, and had a childhood sweetheart who was a Jewish girl caught and killed in the Holocaust. The game goes very far out of its way to make you feel sympathy for Richard, and it all but says it's okay for him to have molested his friend's child because of his past trauma.
We also learn The Maw is the personification of Marianne's sister's pain and trauma from being raped, but in a "hurt people hurt people" way. The game actually closes with the sister begging Marianne to kill her so she/The Maw can stop harming people. The Medium very much has a message of "trauma makes you hurt other people" which, according to a few people who commented on one of Bobvids' tweets about this, is A Thing in Poland. (Apparently Poland has kind of old fashioned views on mental health that feel problematic to people in the States.)

My opinion, I wouldn't call it ripping off, so much as a really hamfisted attempt at homage. This comes up in The Medium a lot as well, there are a lot of things similar to Silent Hill 2.

I actually played this, so here's my zero cents.
I don't think anyone's retarded enough to make a game saying it's okay to rape kids. Medium is certainly isn't the case, although I see the issues with its narrative.
While Richard's backstory is probably too cheesy (it was clearly inspired by Lolita and Rule of Rose, of all things. Another game people were accusing of rape apologism), I think people missed the point here. He was definitely portrayed as "likeable", but he actually met Thomas when he was a kid and he became a father figure to him, that's why Thomas was willing to trust Richard with his own kid. But the thing about Thomas is that he wasn't a good father to Lily because he was afraid she might hurt Marianne and he never taught her how to deal with her powers. And after she was molested, he locked her away and separated her from Marianne because he didn't know how else to deal with that. But nowhere in the game it's implied anything was Lily's fault or Richard's actions, and if I'm wrong please point me where the game states otherwise. I didn't see it as "trauma makes you evil" message, more like an importance of proper therapy, which Lily was denied. In a way this game is more about generational trauma when adults never learn how to deal with their issues and screw up their kids as a result.
It is true that in the post Soviet countries mental health isn't treated as seriously as in the US and only rich and privileged can afford therapists, middle and lower classes are basically told "If you can't deal with your issues yourself, you're a failure" or taught to drink their problems away. So in that aspect, Medium represents those issues realistically, especially in today's political climate perpetuated by Americans who romanticized the shit out of mental illness. No, it doesn't make you evil, but it's selfish and dangerous to deny trauma (especially from sexual abuse) will have no effect on you, this is the exact rhetoric abuse apologists love to perpetuate.

I'm not saying it's a great game, but people are overreacting. Ultimately, video games should not be treated as a substitute for therapy, any kind of work is an extension of the author, not the audience, and it represents the author's view. Oversensitive and easily triggered should not be playing horror games anyway.
But let's not pretend Bob or Void care about any of this, they just want easy social justice points, just like they didn't give a fck about Tomm, they only used him to stick it to Twin Perfect.
But regardless, if the game is so triggering, what's the point of tweeting about it constantly, pretending you care about the supposed victims? I had a professional experience with the victims of child abuse and incest in the family, so I really don't need faggots like Bob to mansplain psychology to me, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

edit: Sorry this got off topic. My point was Void and Bob have a weird habit of reeeing at horror games (that aren't Silent Hill) for including mature topics like rape or incest (what is horror for then?). His obsession with Bloober is another thing, and it doesn't even bring him that many clicks. They made like five games.

I think a lot of the problem here boils down to cultural differences. I agree that I don't in any way think their intention was to excuse or condone child molestation, I think there's just some cultural things happening here that maybe didn't translate well and end up inadvertently giving off unfortunate implications. Not gonna lie, it still makes me feel a bit ~uncomfy~ but I disagree with the people who think this was purposely made as an intentionally "pro-pedo" game.
(Also, didn't think about it while first playing, but now that you point it out I can definitely see the Rule of Rose influences on the story.)

I totally agree. The Silent Hill franchise began as Konami's love letter to American horror. If you're going to go after Bloober Team for plagiarism, then Stephen King would like a word with regards to SH1's plot of a bullied girl with supernatural powers and her crazy religious mother.
Nothing is truly "original." Part of the creative process is taking the things that have inspired you and making them your own. Bob's own video brings up all the other companies and games that blatantly ripped off PT; I feel it's a little disingenuous of him to single out Bloober.

Their hateboner towards Twin Perfect baffles me. There are legitimate criticisms to make of TP, but in my opinion, a lot of this is just Bob and VB wanting to prove themselves as The Best Silent Hill Fans.
Part of SJW ideology. Advocating for real victims is hard, it's easier to just rant about Game Bad. I got a not-so-subtle whiff of elitism from him as well; as I said, certain views on mental health are a thing in Poland, but he gives me vibes that he feels the US is so much more enlightened and compassionate.
If any game that wasn't SH2 dealt with mature issues the way SH2 does, Bob and VB would be clamoring to cancel it as problematic and misogynistic.
This is also a good place to remind us that Void saw the parts of Outcast where one of the antagonists threaten to rip off a character's dick and immediately assumed this was problematic and transphobic because apparently not wanting a part of your body forcefully removed out of you means you're just afraid of becoming a woman. Same with a scene in Outlast 2 where the main character can get his dick ripped out by a pickaxe.
For people completely obsessed with horror, they seem to have a very hard time understanding how fear works, or that horror is a genre supposed to leave you uncomfortable. Anything that tries to be more mature than big spooky monsters or villains that are just cartoonishly evil seems like it either crosses the line for them, or they just assume it's trying too hard to be SH.

The fact she thinks a scene of a man being cut from the groin-up via table saw is equivalent to sexual reassignment surgery speaks volumes about her actual knowledge regarding the same procedure.

The paragraph that name-drops her on that page, on the other hand, is pretty interesting. It seems really out of place in context- that section starts off listing reviews from gaming websites and journalists analysing the themes of the game and the psychological tricks it pulls off to scare you, then takes a really sudden turn to bring up two random let's players nobody outside of this thread has ever heard of.
It also takes up almost as much space as the combined summaries of the reviews from Gamespot, GamesRadar and Polygon without adding anything to the discussion other than "Two random dopes with dipshit opinions think the spooky lights in the game might do something". It sounds less like a contribution to the article and more like a shameless, masturbatory ad to their podcast, which really gets the noggin' joggin'.
