So how far are you guys usually willing to go in terms of consuming content from people who you dislike or disagree with on certain issues? Like if a film director, video game designer, actor, musician, artist, express political views that don’t line up with your own. Or if someone’s who’s content you like is an asshole and a bad person. Would you be willing to continue to enjoy the work they do even if you don’t like the creator?

As long as I found and enjoyed the content before finding out about the creator yes, it'd tarnish it a little but I couldn't/wouldn't say it was bad content. If I find out the creator(s) is an unlikable douche before looking at their content chances are I will never look at the content or if I do I can't stop myself being overly critical or prejudice of the content.

For example I still like The Smiths because I heard them before I learned how exceptional Morrisey can get but have never heard any of Morriseys solo career.

Are their beliefs integrally related to the product?
I wouldn't buy a game about how great communism is made by a particularly entrepreneurial communist even if it was really fun because it would imply that the message could possibly be a selling point, and you don't incentivize stupid.
I would buy a game made by a particularly entrepreneurial communist if it were apolitical or appealed to my sensibilities and was really fun because the primary message there is that good games that aren't trying to change the status quo sell well.
Mirror that across books, movies, etc.

I have a lot of trouble with separating the artist from the creation, personally. If I find out an artist I really like is a complete cunt I don't want to support them anymore, even if they are really good at what they do. I've stopped following artists on social media like Tumblr because of this - a lot of them are whiny and constantly trying to out-progress other people and all I want to do is stare at their drawings.

That saying comes to mind, "never meet your heroes" and I often find it to be true. I generally find the more I know about people I admire, the less I like them.

I don't have to "go" anywhere when a creator's a turd. If the creator's work itself amuses me I'm consuming it. Hell, even bad content should be consumed as much as you can bear to teach yourself what bad content is and to put up some standards.

Of course if the content they create just takes on a whole new meaning on some level once their shitty side comes out, that's a whole different story.

I don't separate artist from creation because i think that context of art really is important to understanding the art, but I do very often enjoy art by people I think are total shitheads. sometimes assholes are great artists.

if I really really hate someone I might just pirate their work or get it from the library instead of pay money for it.

Part of being an adult is being able to separate a person and their work.
I love damn near every piece of music Brendon Small has made but he's also a really deluded liberal who drinks whatever kool-aid is presented to him. I still listen to it because he's a good musician despite knowing that if I met him as anything other than a musician I'd hate him.

I cant stand Jon Jones, everything about him rubs me the wrong way, the fake christfagging and bible tattoos, the nigger dindu behavior, the stupid shit he does and says, but he's the most creative fighter i have ever seen in the ring, and seem to be abel to enter flowstate at will, i learn something new each time i watch him fight....

Geeze, this is one of those things I can't get a handle on...

I try not to judge work by the artist. At the same time, I draw the fucking line at Roman Polanski.

I tend to prefer older works, and I really wonder if part of that is knowing any deplorable assholes involved are discussing the matter with Satan. Not my problem anymore.

If that doesn't make sense, I agree.

Well, as a somewhat conservative person who watches TV and movies, I kind of have to. I think Alec Baldwin is really funny, the man himself is utterly unlikable.

Hell, I could probably list the Trump Presidency there. The things he's making being the current economy and policy directions, the thing he is being Donald Trump, the most unpleasant man in the history of the world.

I dunno, I'm not at all consistent on this, I guess if I'm really annoyed about something the creator did it could cause me to lose interest in it, but I regularly enjoy stuff from awful people.

I fucking hate John Lennon but I like most Beatles music.
Same goes for a lot of people in the entertainment industry. You have to be able to separate the artist from the art. Otherwise I'd probably hate anything that comes out of California, regardless of how good it is.

If what they create is not congruent with what they create, then what they create is meaningless. An, I mean this to even a minute degree, especially with musicians.
I stopped listening to a few artists in the music industry due to their politics and how it is conflicting with their songs.
