Dawn of the Dead got a great remaster in the UK last year however the blu ray is region locked, but they also did a 4k blu ray set which like all 4k blu rays have no region code, also comes with three cuts of the movie. Can pick it up for around £30 for the set with just the movies and extras disc.
I was talking about a specific blu-ray version. The three cuts that most of the releases have are the theatrical, Cannes extended cut, and the Argento cut. There's an Australian blu-ray release that has a fourth cut - 'The Complete Cut', which is essentially an 'official' version of the 'Extended Mall Hours' fan-edit, which adds in every single deleted scene back into the movie, making it longer than even the regular Extended Cut.

I know I saw one on youtube that's like, just all of it mashed together, so people say the same line upwards of three different times in a single scene.
other than that I try to tune out the differences in Dawn Of The Dead so I can just enjoy zombie movie when I'm in the mood to see it

I think Dawn is overrated. It gets a lot of things right. The actors are great. The Savini effects are mostly great. But it has a start and stop kind of pace to it. It's hard to describe at least for me. By no means is it bad but perhaps rough around the edges? It's one of those movies as a young horror fan I was trying to convince myself to love and at the end it just made nice background noise.

That might've been the fan-edit version. The 'Complete Cut' is professionally done and I didn't notice anything like that. Every so often the quality of a scene would be obviously lower than the other ones and/or the coloring would seem off compared to the rest of the movie but that's about the only things I noticed.

yeah I assume it's a fan thing, there's a Dune that does similar stuff

Dawn is the Thunderball of zombie movies, you can get comfy with it and make a meal and stuff while having it on

I would pay to see a Rob Zombie - zombie flick. He has it in him.
Living Dead Girl inspired perhaps?
tbh I wouldn't trust him with a straight zombie movie, I'd keep expecting it to have some swerve where it turned out it was people wandering into a zombie movie being filmed, or some experimental super life treatment as long as you don't spook them, or a trailer park full of methheads, or whatever

I could trust Rob Zombie to direct a zombie movie BUT only if the script has been written by someone else.

A much better idea would be to have Eli Roth write and direct a zombie movie.

Anyone find it odd that Rob zombie has zombie in his name but he's never actually made a zombie movie? Unless you count the zombies in the well at the end of house of 1000 corpses.
Haunted World of El Superbeasto did have zombies iirc... what I find odd is that Rob Zombie isn't starving to death in a gutter somewhere

You don't have multiple gold and platinum albums and go broke without being super stupid or super on drugs and he doesn't seem to be either. He's been pretty straight edge at least for the last 20 or so years.

It's just missing some elements (that I can't really name, it's kinda one of those things that you have to see in action to say "THAT'S THE STUFF!") that put the oomph on all the things it does right. It's got all the things there that are really good...but they kinda fall JUST a little short when looking at the flick as a whole. It doesn't take away from how good it is, but it could be that much better if there was something else there. It's like making stew and there's just some spice that would make it all taste amazing but it's still great as is.

Dawn is a killer watch. But I'd also agree it's just a tad overrated.

Anyone see that Black Summer season 2 came out? I watched the first few episodes and I'm not quite sure how to feel about them. I have enjoyed the segments by themselves, but the method of storytelling is kind of off-putting. The back and forth and time skipping isn't fully scratching that undead itch.

Itchy, tasty.

I can't actually agree with this. Maybe I'll come up with a thoughtful rebuttal at some point, but my off the cuff opinion remains that it is exactly as good as its reputation. Maybe I'm wrong.

That's the Z nation spin-off thing, right?

I watched the first couple of episodes of Z Nation years ago and hated it. Cheap and shitty. Never really understood why people recommended it so much.

I actually re-watched it again. I still don't think it's bad but I wouldn't call it the Citizen Kane of zombie movies. A very important movie for the zombie genre and horror in general. It was the 1-2 punch of Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th that made gore mainstream after all.

It's easy to nitpick too. The opening scene with the SWAT team storming the project is very sloppy. We have no indication why they're there, what exactly is going on, and apparently the SWAT team has cars on the rooftop? It's just badly put together. And it always got to me when Willy is killed and a police officer grabs his shotgun to execute a zombie and doesn't seem to know how shotguns work.

It's easy to nitpick things and it would be hypocritical for me to do that and declare my undying love of Italian horror movies.

TLDR: Fulci's Zombie>Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

What do you think of Argento's cut of Dawn?
