Huge upsets. Early exits. Underdog risings. Shocking disappointments. Intensifying cheering. It's time to bring out the Lolcow of the Year 2015 to determine the best lolcow for this year!

And last year we had 64 lolcows. This year, we double it to 128 to Double the Competition!

1. So How Do I Determine The Lolcows?
Remember the 32 lolcows in the group stage for the previous summer tournament this year? Well, all 32 are in it, and are seeded. (I'll explain the seeding later)

The next 32, will be 31 runners-up for the groups for the qualifying rounds in the Summer Tournament, and the winner for this year's Autist of the Year Tournament.

So what about the final 64? Well, the next 48 are from the top 48 lolcows (as in, most replied) in the Lolcow Subforum who are not already included. This leaves us with 16 left. The remaining 16 are the Top 8 Loveshies from the Loveshy Therapy Center subforum, and the Top 8 Tumblrinas from the Tumblr subforum.

Of course, there will be restrictions on the lolcow choosing, and that is if a lolcow thread is locked for not being a lolcow or anything that doesn't prove said subject is a lolcow, the lolcow is not included for the tournament. Also, the lolcow thread must be last replied this year too.

And there you have it, 128 lolcows!

2. The Road to Champions
This tournament will work differently compared with the previous two ones, so read on carefully!

i. Round of 128
Unlike the previous two tournaments, the 128 lolcows are drawn into 32 groups of 4. Each group will have 1 from the seeded list and 3 from the unseeded list. This is to ensure that the seeded lolcows won't face each other in a very early stage.

And for each group, there will be a knockout stage (NOT a group stage), where 4 lolcows from each group are put into a vote, and only one lolcow from each group will qualify to the next round, making it 32 lolcows for the next round!

ii. Round of 32

The first 8 lolcows will be in the seeded group, determined by their popularity in the Summer Tournament. The other 24 will be in the unseeded group. The 32 lolcows will be drawn into 8 groups of 4, 1 from seeded and 3 from unseeded. Same as the previous round, the 4 lolcows from each group are put into a vote, and only one lolcow from each group will qualify to the next round, making it 8 lolcows.

iii. Round of 8 (Semi-Finals)

No more seedings! The 8 lolcows are drawn randomly into 2 groups of 4, and this time you can vote for more than 1 lolcow for each group! The lolcows with the most votes from each group will qualify to the final, and the ones with the second-most votes from each group will be in the 3rd-place Playoff!

iv. Final and 3rd-Place Playoff

No need explanation for this, and the final will be the top of the thread as usual and the 3rd-place playoff will be in a StrawPoll as usual too.

Unlike the previous two tournaments, the votings will last for 48 hours instead of 24. So get hyped!

Also, in case of a draw, the winner will be determined by the number of posts in said lolcow's thread.

3. Results

Winner: Ahuviya Harel

4. Current Stage

Congrats to Ahuviya Harel for winning the tournament!

Imho, we should really divide This into tiers, there's no contest between say, ADF and Gloria Tesch. We should probably also have higher minimum standards for activity. Something like a minimum of 250 posts on a cow's thread in the past year or they don't get in.

But on the bright side, after all of that voting, I'm much better at identifying pictures of wheelchairs and sandwiches.

ADF and Gloria Tesch are seeded for the Round of 128 since they are in the Group Stage for the Summer Tournament, and seeded lolcows would not face each other in Round of 128. The next round will also have seeded lolcows too to ensure that top lolcows won't face each other very early.

As for minimum standards, I made sure that all of the 128 lolcows' threads/subforums (with the exception of Anita and probably some minor ones I forgot, since Anita is the runners-up for a Qualifying Round for the Summer Tournament) are last posted this year too. And plus, from my choosing of the top 48 lolcows in the Lolcows subforum, they have more than 250 posts in their threads.

Why iJustine? Unless I've missed something, she's been irrelevant for about five years now, and was never much of a lolcow anyway.
To be honest, that entire group is pretty boring (to me at least) but a couple of weak groups can be expected given how many participants there are.

I do wonder why so many participants though. Feels like a lot of groups have obvious winners and only a couple are really debatable.

Yeah, but notice that I said 250 posts in the past year. I think several cows would be knocked out by this requirement. Honestly, it should probably be closer to 1000, but I understand the appeal of a big tournament and making sure at least a few of everyone's favorites will be there.

Imho, we should really divide This into tiers
instead of tiers, im thinking categories for future awards. such as
  • lolcow artist of the year
  • most passionate about foreskins
  • biggest wiki sperg
  • best run-in with the law
  • most self-incriminating pedophile
  • biggest single fuck-up
  • best mooch
  • best harasser
  • 'how are you still alive' 2015
maybe not this many and maybe not that specific, but it'd give a chance to showcase some of the less popular cows who occupy smaller, but hilarious niches.

It's already in the Julays Awards, and already finished too.

Anyway as for minimum posts for this year, I'll consider it for the summer one next year, which will have some limitations.
