Lolcow physical time capsule -

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Looking into some solutions.

Having read up on the Scientlogist crazies and how they are engraving L. Rob Hubbard's work on stainless steel plates and plan to bury them for future archeologists to find, I realized that the work here must also be preserved.

Obviously, I don't have the money of the Church of Scientology, but I thought I'd start with engraving Brad Watson's schizo behavior first. Metal or stone, I haven't decided yet.

Does anyone else have suggestions on lolcows crazy enough to be preserved for posterity?

This is relevant to my interests, also if you want it to last don't look at Paper, Velum is the best for long term archival records, you'll also need to get a specialist ink something Noodlers heart of darkness (or an otherwise non-chromatic ink that designed for long term archival use with neutral PH) or the records won't last very long.

Interesting! Thanks for the info!
I was thinking more like engraving in stone or metals using a dremel.
Something more rugged that can be buried without it necessarily having to be vacuum- or argon-sealed.

I think to fully preserve the full story of Chris you need much more than just his mind and words and ideas preserved. It'd be like a messed up chronological book of genesis put on stone tablets marking down in great detail how and why Chris is what he is and what led to everything.

So basically just a full rundown of Barb and Bob's failure as parents alongside Chris' many own failures.

Stone could work but to get any from of serious density you'd either have so many cock up's making your going to run out of funds and metals are just troublesome because if the local geochemistry changes for some reason that shit's going to oxidise rapidly.

If I were you I'd go with my Velum method and make a multi tank capsule - several of them and then put them in "stable" locations for future generations to discover, places that are of little to no interest for us now but in 50. 100, 150, more years it might be I'd also make sure that if I was putting in a mix of media that it wasn't giving off anything volatile in the long run as while they may play well together for a while in a normal environment that has some ventilation a capsule that's going to survive will need to be sealed.

Gimme a little bit and I'll see what I can come up with, to make it cheap and affordable to try and archive this sort of shit long term (I'm bored and need a new project).

Vellum might be a good idea, combined with good permanent ink. Another route would be printing on a good quality paper, then laminating it. Put them in plastic container with filler material and put that in your time capsule. Remember that depending how long you'll want it to last, you might want to provide some context. Cultural stuff(like, what's Sonic and Mega Drive at the first place) and how does the alphabet you're using work.
