Lolita Fashion - Frills, lace, and everything salty!

Man that sounds like a particular bad kind of hell since a lot of lolitas that I've seen when lurking on livejournal and other such places were cattier than a homosexual stereotype. There's something about the fashion that draws the most snobbish cunts to it.
Yes, the coterie of cuntiness. I noticed that some of them would get really fucking pedantic/autistic if an outfit or accessory doesn't fit strictly into a category or a sub-category. Like they were just waiting to jump on some poor chicks ass because she was wearing the "wrong" bag or barettes.

Is that the reason she's an ex?

I've seen larger gals look great in this style. I'm not talking Tess Holliday big, but its all about how you wear it.
No, she's an ex for other reasons. She looked better tiny though, now she looks like she's been stun by too many bees and had an allergic reaction.

Are there any brand out there keeping pre-2015 sweet aesthetics alive?
I'm not so into lolita that I'd really know what has changed, but I can remember being more into the sweet lolita styles somewhere between 2010 and 2015, too. What's the difference between these eras, what separates that from the new, modern sweet lolita style? I've only seen one other person mention this before. I need a historical timeline dammit!

From what I can tell (at least with me being of the gothic lolita) the difference between pre 2015 and post 2015 is that there is less emphasis on frills and ruffles and more on the patterns themselves. Don't get me wrong there still are ruffles on the dresses but it's more subtle when compared to the patterns on the dresses.

Also did anyone else pre-order the funeral/asylum rerelease from violet fane? I just preordered these two items from their asylum series and when i lose a bit more weight, i'm gonna get the funeral dress (assuming it hasn't sold out by then).

IMO, AP became more fast fashion-y after 2015, pumping out more releases all the time which is why a lot of them end up looking the same and feel uninspired.
Dresses are more frequently made out of chiffon and polyester instead of cotton. and they're more shapeless and baggy with larger sizing and high waists. There's more gradients, crosses and religious themes, washed out prints, and designs seem more generic and copied from other series, like they're running out of ideas, but gotta pump out a new series or two every couple weeks.
They give excuses for using polyester more, but I just see the same thing that's happening all across fashion, they are making cheaper and more generic products.
I don't think there's anything really wrong with the newer releases, and a lot of them are quite nice, but something about the older releases just feels like more thought was put into them. The last release I was really excited about was in 2015, everything after that has just been OK. Also they stopped doing printed velveteen (because of costs) which is terrible.

I have a huge collection of AP. Some before they started full on sweet in '10 and some after. The quality is night and day.

My coveted Rose Toilette OP is gorgeous heavy material with really soft lining and quality stitching. On the other hand the infamous Melty Chocolate JSK I own is very stiff and the fabric just feels...subpar. The bow on it became detached due to bad stitching and I had to have it repaired. And the zipper began to go as well. I'm not surprised AP quality has gone down and they're running low on pretty prints. They used to be very conservative with the really flashy prints but like you said, it's a constant barrage of them and not much room to breath between purchases. And it doesn't help that some of their designs have forgotten the elegant part of EGL and look like something I would dress my baby in.

...I really want to wear lolita again, that aside. But I'm 30 now. I wonder if there are some older lolitas from the classic 00-2010s who have made a club or something.

I wouldn't let age deter you away from continuing wearing lolita. So long as you look good in it and having fun that's all that matters. Truth be told, I'm not really a fan of Japanese brands due to higher prices, not being able to squeeze my fat arse in them, and generally not being a fan of most of the designs that come from them. I prefer indie stuff as it's usually of equal or greater quality but at a smaller price (around $150-200 compared to $300+) and having nicer designs that don't feel as clusterfuck-y compared to the Japanese ones.

A little bit of a power level, I saw a couple of lolitas before corona chan hit at a major art museum that I went to pretty frequently. Plus when I wore my first coord a couple years ago I just walked around a mall by myself.

Well there's meetups. Tea places are popular. You'd be surprised how many people wear it to the mall or wherever. Museums, bubble tea, cute shops.
I stopped wearing it a few months ago, but I guess the pandemic made me want some cuteness in my life, and I bought a few new Angelic Pretty dresses. It's kind of sad not knowing when cons are going to come back though.

I know a lot of lolitas in their 30s who look great so I don't think that should deter you. It definitely feels like the fashion is aging with some of the girls that got into in the 10s. Even /cgl/ has quieted down with calling people grandma if they're over 25.
Rose toilette is a beautiful print! One of my all time favorites. I like some of the newer perfume prints, but nothing really beats rose toilette.
There's currently a big resurgence of 2010s sweet AP prints. Stuff like sugary carnival and milky planet is going for $600+ again.

Since this thread is active figured I'd post this dress. Finally caved and bought it as my first lolita dress a couple months ago (entirely because of the royal cat portraits on the dress). I plan on wearing it out tomorrow at a wine bar cause why not haha. Was barely able to go out all summer cause of quarantine so might as well make the most of the freedom now

Is this a good thread to share greentext stories? I've accumulated a few from /cgl/ over the years.
