Lolita Fashion - Frills, lace, and everything salty!

The absolute state of lolita fashion these days, and it's not just Fatty-chan. I remember seeing lolita as a kid, back when it didn't look like a freakshow, and it's so weird to look at it again more closely now, years and years and years later. Remember when it was still Victorian-inspired and somewhat accurate? Back when lolitas knew that print is for t-shirts and children's blankets, not expensive formal old-tymie dresses? Now it's no wonder why the people who buy this OTT stuff need support groups where they have to asspat each other until they gather the collective courage to go out in public or even just in front of their parents while dressed like that.
I think that black dress with the witchy print is still pretty cute. I dunno, I'm just an outside admirer but I think print dresses can still look tasteful and nice. It just depends on where you put it. I really like the ones that tend to have print around the skirt part of the dress.

Semi related but I find /cgl/ so god damn depressing nowadays. Way too many people post unironically about whoring and doing onlyfans to buy shitty dresses. It's just depressing.
Life on easy mode. Why work for what you want when you can throw out a couple pics teasing your clam. These “entrepreneurs” will learn soon enough that someone younger and prettier will always take their place.

I think prints are great and I love them but you're just posting like, sweet prints and OTT sweet. Like yeah, its sweet lolita, its not gonna look very historic. The amount of amazing classic lolita releases, especially coming out of western and Chinese indie brands, is not something to be ignored.

I must respectfully disagree regarding print. It's still tacky and very childish to print pictures of things onto a garment and try to make it anything other than casual as far as clothing goes. Even then, it's not exactly something that grown women generally want on even a casual sun dress, relegating it to t-shirt territory. The farthest that any non-t-shirt print can really go before getting into "hahah eccentric teacher" territory is a floral pattern or a normie repeating pattern such as the dreaded paisley. There's a bit more desperation if anything when using said print to display illustrations of things that are stereotypically perceived of as high-class, such as candelabras, tea sets, etc.

However, I must agree with you that I've seen a shocking amount of indie TaoBao items that turn out to be just as good, if not better, than their stock photos depict them to be. I've seen countless blouses that make Angelic Pretty look like a cheap knockoff brand at times. I've even gotten to see and touch (with permission) several TaoBao lolita products that blew me away with their quality. Definitely not the kind of thing you could find in a costume shop or the children's section. We really should extract those high-quality TaoBao seamstresses and designers before China's inevitable glassing.

You really have to be careful because people are very sensitive to cultural appropriation, especially in the USA. Victorian is 'safe' because its associated with England which is not a country typically associated with oppressed minority groups.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I'm just saying I get why people don't do it.

Also, I don't like prints of objects on dresses either, I feel it cheapens it.

Not true of the continental U.S. It's just that the big cities are the ones to be careful in.
The best analogy I can make is the difficulty in asking police to meet the townfolk, easy job in a small town but a big ask in a big city.
Also steer clear of corporate social networks to keep away from crazies, but then your audience will consequentially be more niche.

Mad because you can't afford or fit into Angelic Pretty aren't you?

What's going on? All this stuff looks really cute and not like their mostly terrible releases of late. I love the details on the strawberry dress.

I want that piece RinRin is wearing so bad though it reminds me of Dancing Baby Bear from Btssb

Maybe they're trying to get that ott sweet revival money early which hopefully would be a good business decision since last year, a lot of their new releases have been okay at best

I wanted to like dancing baby bear but something just didn't hit the mark for me, but AP's take is really nice.
I like some of their new releases but the quality just hasn't been there. I even bought Little Witch and was just sorta disappointed, although it's a cute print.

i'm not lolita myself but isn't hime/princess somewhat Rococo inspired?

I'm pretty sure Wa is still around. And the whole Mori-kei thing. Always liked those for the softer styles and colors, but it's been a hot minute since I looked into Lolita stuff, so who knows?

As for patterns, my two cents is on subtle ones, more like damask or Swiss dot. And even then not blanketing the whole piece.

The Chinese like their Qi Lolita and a handful of them pump out Military Lolita which looks surprisingly interesting. The former is quite distinct and the latter usually consists of skirts combined with jackets. The colour pallete tends to consist of blacks, dark shades of red and olive drab, plus some vaguely inspired military decorations and hats. There's also an Etsy Lolita from Indonesia that does some really cute stuff. Coruscate Unique.

My the absolute state of this thread. Since we've devolved so lowly I'd love to post a coord I've become OBSESSED WITH recently. Everything about this screams mall goth in the best way while still looking elegant and lovely

I need to know where its from! (Even if it may not fit me or is way out of my budget) it's such a gorgeous dress! I always liked blue and black together. But I rarely see any blue or blue and black dresses from most places besides moi meme moitie.

Edit: this was wearing on my brain so I looked it up and it's definitely moitie.
