Losing a Pet -

Sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is one of the worst things in the world and I know all too well how horrible it is. Spend time with friends and family, immerse yourself in what makes you happy, get out of the house, exercise. The usual, really. Make sure to keep yourself busy. Taking time to just cry helps too, but try to keep it in moderation.

I am very sorry for your loss. Pets are family members too.
I grew up in a rural area and my parents (and other people) thought it was normal to have lots of cats, don't fix them, and not be very sad when they died. I was of course sad but didn't get much help in that area beyond a little funeral and more cats.
Now that I'm older of course I realize that's extremely fucked up. I don't know what I will do when my cat dies.
14 years seems like a good life for a cat. r.a.e.l.'s advice is good. Its probably good if you're religious but I don't have much advice in that area.

Fourteen years is a pretty good run for a cat, at least it was quick and relatively painless.
My cat died about eight years ago, and I'm still sad about it.

You just have to do the things you would normally do, zone out while reading or playing computer games or something. It'll help somewhat.

My childhood dog is currently 14 and has pretty much reached his life expectancy. He's slowed down and we're sort of just numbly waiting for when the time comes. I feel you bro. Losing a pet is different from losing a person. A pet is a whole chapter of your life and somehow it's something fragile in how much you cherish it. Like a child. Hang in there. The pain might never truly go away. But the memories won't either. As long as you have them, nothing loved ever truly dies.

Talking of losing pets, you lost some goons a while ago no? Is it different?

My best advice is to cry and be sad; let it out. If possible get his ashes or a collar or just keep something of his. Like everyone says, it doesn't really get better, just easier. You might always catch yourself checking for you cat or squeezing out a tear or two months after the fact, but you'll be ok. And adopting a new friend once you've grieved is a nice idea. It won't be a replacement, but 14-20 years building a new human-cat bond is a beautiful thing.

I recently lost my own cat. I'm sorry you're feeling the same loss :heart-empty:
