Pre-built Vega Graphics builds has only been a thing since 2018, meaning that Louis's definition of "old" is only two years ago. So he's either lying about the age of his computer, lying about the necessity of this computer, or lying about it being broken entirely

To be fair, the gaming laptop is probably the one that broke. Lou is claiming that his backup laptop is old. Of course, if the backup laptop worked back in 2018, then why the hell would Lou need to buy a new gaming laptop?

Also, why hasn’t he sold one of his chromebooks sooner? Is he truly so lazy that he won’t make an ad on Craigslist until he absolutely has to? Why would anyone need two chromebooks?

So he had a Lenovo n21 as recently as five weeks ago, and currently has a Lenovo S340 and a Samsung 4+. That's three Chromebooks, in addition to a gaming laptop, two iPads, an iPhone, an Xbox One, a Nintendo Switch (with Paper Mario: The Origami King, released on July 17 for $60) and, as recently as a few months ago, a PlayStation 4. That's more computing devices than I have, and I have a well-paying job and I work in the tech industry.

Chromebooks run ChromeOS, and some can dualboot a Linux distribution but that requires some effort. Out of the box Lou can use Google Docs for his writing, no fancy software or additional work required other than just having a Gmail account.

Chromebooks specifically were designed to be used for work and school. They’re small, cheap, don’t have gaming specs, very portable, hold a decent charge, and generally are very useful for either pulling out and typing up your thesis while hanging out at Starbucks or writing your research article for a grade school social studies class.

In other words: Lou could just use a chrome book for his writing, since that’s specifically what chrome books are meant to be used for, and are optimized to focus almost entirely on that purpose.

But he doesn’t want to use them, because the allure of getting a shiny new Apple toy is too much for him to resist.
