As of yesterday Retired Marine General Mattis was appointed to be the new Secretary of Defense. What does this mean? Well picture it this way, if Sun Tzu joined the USMC and had a kid with Chesty Puller then got a career to run the entire ball game himself.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Mattis

This guy is called the warrior monk for a lot of good reasons, his own library is 10k, he's not a mouth breather at all. But at the same time he has more piss and vintager in him then most Marines, and that's why he's loved. He's the kind of guy who will give you a black eye for acting a fool, give you a cold beer to keep it from swelling and then explain how to unfuck yourself.

He's as close to someone like Clauswitz we have alive today and he just got passed the ball. Now in his time he's proven himself to not play nice to the enemy and now he's also going to have a shit ton of sway of our policy, 900 billion dollar battle ships that can't shoot we've dealt with and related boondoggles that we end up because someone's senator brother is a CEO, yea he can step in now.

Now his decorators are saying he kicks ass and takes names, that will only radicalize more! Well read up more, haters. Mad Dog makes sure to bring in experts in Arab cultures and has denounced torture with a more flies with honey approach. He's even gone as far as telling the Marines under him to grow mustaches so they can look more relatable to the locals.

He's got a long history of being willing to kick out screw ups, something the entire political system needs. I for one am super fucked amped for this.

There was one for SOS so I thought this would be ok, plus Mattis is love, Mattis is life. Honestly with him the face of the American Mil both in unit and the complex around it could be shaken up big time in a good way.

Plus as you said, Trumps thread is filled with shit posting and rage outs.

So he's "the closest thing to Gen. George Patton that we have?" He seems more like MacArthur, because Patton would have beaten Sgt. Bergdahl to a pulp and never required troops to take cultural sensitivity classes.

Aside from Patton not believing in PTSD and inappropriately treating such individuals, he seems to embody many of the same traits as Mattis. Like Mattis, Patton was a very learned scholar of both contemporary military literature and the classics, and Patton too spent much of his career in the field, at the head of a frontline combat unit, not behind a desk. A real soldier's soldier, as they now say of Mattis.

MacArthur was a scheming politico first and a soldier second. He made decisions based on how the outcome would affect his reputation and future career prospects, not whether they would win the war or preserve the lives of his men. They called him "Dugout" Doug because he was always bunkered down in the rear in a bomb shelter (in the Philippines) or separated by the entire Sea of Japan from his troops (in Korea), completely out of touch with his men and their needs. Maybe worst of all, he was insubordinate to the civilian authority above him, ie the US President. Patton and Mattis often heatedly disagreed with the orders from their superiors, but they never tried to subvert or circumvent the chain of command. And if there was any doubt MacArthur held contempt for the common soldier, he was the general who ordered the US Army to crush the "Bonus Army" demonstrators with cavalry, tanks, and tear gas.

Which he did so via doing an attack (that the President not only didn't order but also told McArthur to stop) saying that they were gonna overthrow the Government.

Said attack killed three (including a 12-week-old-boy) and got a senator trampled under a horse

Yes, but as Secretary of Defence, Mattis will essentially be making military decisions on the other side of the world at a desk in The Pentagon. I doubt he will want to run for office after Trump, although people will speculate.

I have a funny feeling Mattis will keep bending the rules on that...

He might run up one heck of a travel bill as a result.
