I think we can all agree that ratings are the most important aspect of this site and the reason we're all here.

Opening up all the ratings was a mistake. Why would anyone rate a Disco post Semper Fi? The only rating that should be available in that piece of shit board should be a new one, the retarded rating. Every single Disco post should automatically get fifty of the new retarded rating and they should each count as 100 negatives and automatically ban you from the site forever.

I would never, ever, drink to someone in Community Watch and they should all be banned.

Rating someone in Beauty Parlor with A-Log is pointless because that's the point of the board.

No one in deep thoughts has ever made a post that deserves a winner.

Also deviant should be a positive rating.

Ratings are essential for quality discussion. Instead of a thousand people replying "Yes I agree with this, pretty much" or "I was just going to say that" or "^ this so much this" as any person who has visited any other forum (or reddit, YT comments, etc) has seen a lot of, it allows people to sum their feelings regarding a post in the quickest and cleanest way - and often funny too: optimistic ratings often made me LMAO, especially when it was ratings on posts of mine which I didn't expect to be rated optimistic at all, and gave me an entire new perspective on what I had written.

Yes, people would still from time to time post "I agree with this" on KF but orders of magnitude less than you'd see on other forums. Threads were still hundreds of pages long, but at least 90% of the posts were trying to add some content in one way or another - be it a joke, a new screenshot or some ideas on what's been discussed before. I guarantee that without the ratings system those long-ass threads would have had double the size and half the quality.

People want to reach to posts they like/agree/disagree/are horrified by, etc. Without the ratings system people would be tempted to write a "shitpost" in order to convey those feelings (see link above) - something that just echoes their reaction but adds nothing to the thread's topic itself. Anyone who understands design or webdesign knows what I'm talking about here: people want to be heard - if they can simply push a button and not clutter the thread in order to do so, then that's a good pretty great thing in of itself.

Also worth noting is that the ratings system was great to show disapproval. No one wants to be the asshole that replies to a shit or off-topic post with a shit/off-topic post of their own saying "stop derailing the thread asshole". No one wants to be that guy. No one wants to be the pedant user who reports posts to moderators for being shitposting/off-topic. But oh people will certainly give you 20 neg-ratings if they are able to do it - which helps shame the user into stopping or raise moderator attention without anyone having to be "that guy that always reports posts that are stupid for no reason at all". If you've never been neg-rate-bombed you weren't in KF.

The ratings system was one of the best things in KF and a huge reason of why I decided to create an account to participate and why the site kept me coming back. I could express myself about every single post and only actually write a post myself if I actually had something to add to the party. I am 100% sure whatever ends up being the new KF will have a ratings system. Users don't like going back in terms of what they are able to do, especially considering a feature they used on a daily basis and added huge value to the site.
